Friends arrive at airport 6 hours away from home, woman refuses to extend boyfriend's offer to give them all a ride: 'He thinks they're not the right people for me'

Being a good friend involves helping people out from time to time.

Much like in any type of relationship, there is a give and take that comes with being friends. Friendship can't be all about fun hangouts and sharing interests; it also involves mutual support, and occasionally doing things for one another that might end up inconveniencing you. That is what makes the hard times easier, and the good times even better.

Unfortunately, this is a logic that not everybody is willing to accept. It is true that there is an element of risk to making a friend, and that protecting your boundaries is important, but that doesn't mean that you should let personal hang-ups get in the way of doing your duty as a decent person who supposedly cares about those around you.

Of course, we all make mistakes. Sometimes, other priorities get in the way of us being the kind of friend that we should be, and arguments can happen. Still, there are some scenarios where we have no choice but to admit that we are in the wrong and try to learn from the experience, thinking about how we can be a better friend in the future.

  • A group of friends was left with a dilemma after their flight back from vacation was delayed, changing their travel plans from the airport. This was difficult, as the airport was very far from where any of them lived. Three of them in particular were faced with an issue of their public transport not arriving at its destination until early in the morning.

    One of them realized that her boyfriend was willing to pick them up and drive them part of the way, but she didn't tell them about this, as she didn't think that he liked her friends. She wasn't sure if she had made the right decision.

  • I spoke to my boyfriend about the issue, while we disembarked the plane and he asked me to catch a train that would take me halfway there and he would pick me up and drive me the rest of the way back, because of the delay I missed the first one but could make the final halfway train.
