It's actually such an adorable story. There's nothing more exciting than going to get a kitten without knowing in advance. But surprise birthday parties can be complicated. When I was 18 years old, my parents threw me a surprise birthday party and it was absolutely horrible. I said I didn't want a party for my birthday, and I meant it. I remember coming home one day to a dark home, turning on the light, and seeing my parents, sister, and high school friends all there yelling, “surprise!” I was horrified. Firstly, I didn't want friends over at my place because I was really embarrassed at the time. Secondly, the friends there were people I wasn't even friends with anymore. We fell out of touch a couple years before it, and I'm still confused why they came at all. And thirdly, they ordered pizza for me and I don't even like pizza!
