30 Cats Who Found Joy in the Simplest Little Toys

Every cat has a favorite toy and once it's been chosen, there isn't much humans can do about it.

Pet stores can be filled with colorful new toys, but cats have a habit of falling in love with the one that's already been chewed on, tossed across the house, and loved for months or even years. That scruffy little mouse with half its tail missing somehow becomes more valuable than anything fresh out of the package.

The favorite toy earns its place through countless zoomies, surprise pounces, and late-night play sessions. Before long, it starts appearing everywhere. One morning it's waiting outside the bedroom door. Later it's sitting in the middle of the hallway. By bedtime, it has somehow found its way onto the couch. It's less of a toy and more of a tiny companion that follows the cat through every part of the day.

Cats carry these little treasures with so much pride that you'd think they'd just returned from a successful hunting expedition. The toy dangles from their mouth as they march through the house, completely pleased with themselves, ready for everyone to admire their latest accomplishment. No audience is required, but they'll gladly accept one.

The best part is that these beloved toys slowly become part of the family too. Everyone recognizes them on sight. Everyone knows not to throw them away, no matter how worn out they look. They may be missing feathers, stuffing, or an eye, but they're still priceless in the eyes of the tiny predator who claimed them.

Cats really do pick the most random things to become obsessed with. A bendy straw, an old receipt, a bottle cap, or a twist tie can suddenly outrank every toy in the house. That little straw gets batted under the couch, proudly carried from room to room, and hunted like it's the greatest discovery of the century. Meanwhile, the expensive toy sitting three feet away hasn't been touched in weeks.

Laser pointers have convinced generations of cats that one day they're finally going to catch that mysterious little red dot. Every chase starts with complete confidence, followed by lightning-fast zoomies, dramatic leaps, and a few questionable turns around the furniture. The dot always escapes, but that never seems to discourage them. The next time it appears, the hunt starts all over again with the exact same level of determination. Every skatepark needs at least one fearless rider, and this cat seems more than happy to volunteer.
