Woman searches for the tiny tortoiseshell kitten that disappeared from her car engine, then gives her the purrfect furever home

I thought I was about to start a normal workday when my husband woke me up with the words nobody expects to hear before breakfast: I think there's a cat in your car engine. If Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit has taught me anything, it's that cats have an uncanny knack for showing up exactly where they're meant to. I just didn't expect mine to arrive under the hood of my car.

At first, nobody could even agree on what the kitten looked like. One person thought she was gray, another insisted she was orange, and someone else was convinced she was black. Once she finally peeked out, the mystery was solved. She was a beautiful little tortoiseshell, and she wasn't making it easy to rescue her.

She slipped out from the engine and darted into a patch of bushes before the sound of a garbage truck sent her running into the woods. I had to leave for work, but I couldn't stop thinking about her. The whole day I felt guilty, wondering if she was still out there waiting for someone to come back.

The next afternoon, I decided to check one more time. I heard the tiniest, scratchiest little meow and followed the sound until she slowly crawled out of the bushes. This time she didn't run. She climbed into the carrier without much hesitation, settled onto a blanket, and immediately started making biscuits like she'd been waiting for this moment all along.

The vet confirmed she didn't have any visible injuries, and she quickly settled into life indoors. She's eating well, loves her heated blanket, and seems perfectly content with the upgrade from engine compartment to cozy home.

Now the little stowaway has a name, Ellie, and a family who already adores her. She may have started her journey hiding under the hood, but it's pretty clear she ended up exactly where she was supposed to be.
