My exit interview took a wild turn when HR pulled out a counter-offer... for exactly what I'd been asking for all year 😭

Companies have this incredible talent for ignoring problems for years and then suddenly discovering solutions the second someone stops caring about the outcome. You spend forever raising concerns, sending reports, asking for basic resources. Nothing happens. Silence. Maybe a "great insights, thanks" and then everyone moves on like you said nothing at all.
Then you quit. And suddenly, magically, everything you asked for is available. Budget? Sure. Extra support? No problem. A raise? Absolutely, why didn't we think of that sooner. Funny how urgency works, it only shows up once it's too late to matter. At that point, taking the counteroffer is basically agreeing to relive the same nightmare, just with slightly nicer furniture. If it took you leaving for anyone to listen, staying just guarantees round two of being ignored, except now you already know how it ends.
And the best part is always the aftermath. Someone acts completely normal the next day, like nothing happened, like you didn't spend years trying to get anyone to care. No apology, no acknowledgment, just a cheerful "let us know if you change your mind," as if that's supposed to be persuasive.
Companies love loyalty right up until it becomes inconvenient. They will happily let you struggle for years, but the moment you're gone, everything you wanted becomes suddenly, urgently possible.
Nothing quite says "we value you" like ignoring you for years and then panicking the second you leave.
