Thread: People Criticize Moms That Take Pride in Their Own Needless Suffering

Parents say, “I never complained!” Their kids are saying, “maybe you should have.”

Not everyone was in venting mode. Some people sided with the parents.

Though most people replying in the thread took the opportunity to vent about their own parents, others acknowledged the nuances of parenting and generational differences that affect how people raise their children.

“Moms can't win.” replied @ohmyword1, “You don't want to burden your family but you need to get stuff done to try to make life better for them.”

But the resounding sentiment was on the side of kids whose parents weaponized their own suffering against their children. The point being, one's own suffering shouldn't be used to shrug off the suffering of their children.

Some parents just get it.

A handful of people reminded the thread that not all parents let their resentment get the better of them. One Twitter user opened up about how their mom talks about how hard she had it as a kid, not to shut down anyone else's suffering, but to emphasize that she wanted better for her kid. You go mom.
