The ongoing legend of Lord Sir Thackery Binx
“In 2013, I lost all 3 of my childhood cats in very quick succession. I was heartbroken and shattered, especially because one of them I found as a kitten when I was 3, and I'd had her for 23 years. I had contemplated trying to get a new pet, but every time I'd think too much about it, I'd get all depr**sed, and [dismiss] the idea. Convinced myself I could never find companions like them again.”

"According to her, my (now ex) wife spent a large amount of time secretly hunting for a black kitten for me. One random day, Without mentioning a single thing to me about it, she told me we were headed out for errands, and then drove me out like an hour from home. She'd dragged me to some house I'd never seen before, and was like "we're here". I got out of the car and was SUPER confused. I'd never seen this place, let alone been to whatever town she took me to. I asked what we were here for, and she said something along the lines of "we're here to meet your new best friend"."
"We got there and almost immediately after arriving, the foster's phone started going off. She greeted us, brought us to a guest bedroom where all the kittens were being kept, and mentioned that the only black cat they had that was up for adoption, is "Tut", and warned us he's pretty anti-social, and likely hiding in the bathroom. She apologized for needing to run off, but mentioned the call was likely important, and went off to answer it. I went to find Tut, and surely enough, he was hiding in a little towel fort, by the base of the toilet. I went to approach him and he was NOT in the mood for anyone... hissing, growling, swiping with claws out. I went from being really hopeful about leaving with a new buddy, to feeling completely defeated again. And after the 3 losses in less than a year, I was already feeling pretty bad, and like maybe i really wasn't met to have another pet, so that interaction really hurt."
"As soon as I stood up to walk away, a sharp pain started climbing up the back of my leg, then up my back, and stopped at my shoulder. I turned to look and there was a different black kitten. As we locked eyes, he screamed in my face, then licked my nose. At that moment, the foster walked back in the room and was like "oh, wow... well I'm glad you 2 seem to be getting along, cause that's "Osiris", and the phone call I just got, was the people who claimed him, calling to cancel... so he's up for grabs if you want him"."
Turns out that George Brown would, in fact, leave with a best friend that day. Just like anything involving cats, you have to expect the unexpected. Binx chose him, and who are any of us to say no when a cat tells us what they want? You can try, but in my purrsonal experience, I've never won a single argument with my cat. And if you think you have, congratulations, but we all know you're just kidding yourself.
“With no hesitation, I agreed, went through the vetting process, and signed up all the paperwork, and ever since, we've been inseparable. I've never been more in sync with a pet before. He greets me at the door every day, and follows me from room to room when I'm home. Currently 13 years young, and tough as all heck. He loves to play fetch with his little soccer ball, sharing my ice cream, and play-fighting almost daily.”
"He's my ESA, and has been my loyal familiar since that very day. Adoption name "Osiris", New name is Lord Sir Thackery Binx."
