I was working in retail for low pay while trying to find a job in my real field. And finally, I got an offer for something in my field. I went in yesterday intending to give them a respectful ten days' notice. As soon as the manager found out, his attitude changed and he got r de, and he kept yelling at me that I was "leaving them in the middle of things" and that I had ruined the schedule, and he raised his voice at me next

to the cashier while customers were standing there. So I told him: "Fine, forget it, I'm done now." I took off the badge and walked out in the middle of the shift. They don't give people any heads-up when they cut their hours or fire them. Why am I supposed to be polite when he doesn't know how to handle a resignation like a decent human being?

I've already gotten messages asking if I'm coming back to finish the rest of the week or not. Of course not. I wish I'd left weeks ago.

bobfromsanluis Giving any notice of quitting is a courtesy that is supposed to help the employer find someone to replace you as you're leaving. In this instance, you handled this the only way you could and still retain your dignity. As for your ex boss, play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Very ride of them to demean you in front of other employees, but doubly so for doing so in front of customers. Sounds like a complete

Radiant Safe1228 Lol I did this years ago. Truck came in on mondays. It was Sunday and they hadn't touched it all week. I was down to one day a week and one of only 2 other people that worked on Sundays. This dips t manager told me I had to finish the truck or else. I said make me. She got ☐ and told me it's my job. I gave the cashier girl a hug and "went to lunch"

I showed up about 8 months later to get some stuff and the GM was in. He ran up and grabbed me and told me he was so glad I was back from lunch, I was holding up everyone else's. Good dude. I miss ken. One of the best leaders I've ever had in my life.

johnmh71 This is why I have learned to be very picky when it comes to giving notice. Not every job deserves one.

davidbeez84 Good for you. Remember, you are not obligated to give a two weeks' notice when quitting a job.

Amazing-Temporary-20 As a manager in a similar field he is an *sshole. You did the right thing. It REALLY s ks when someone quits. Finding good employees for a minimum wage job is not easy. But you went above and beyond to give him 2 weeks and he responds like that? Nah.

InformationStrict746 I was a manager at a movie theatre where our employees were primarily high school/college/recent graduates. I always hated when one of our good long term employees put in their notice. I hated it because I knew we were losing a good employee, but I was also excited for them. The theatres I worked at we ended up as a small family. Most of them finished out their 1 to 2 weeks and we parted ways with a smiles and a secret hope they'd come back.
