Entitled Employee Demands Coworker Bring Him Weeknight Dinner Tacos, Gets Offended When She Refuses

Who hasn't felt like a coworker is asking for something unreasonable now and then?

It can be both a blessing and a curse of the workplace that it generally forces you to interact with people you wouldn't usually be around. It is the best way to learn to deal with difficult personalities, and sometimes even discover more about yourself in the process. On the other hand, having to deal with the nonsense of somebody who is incompatible with you and proud of it can prove to be a major stressor in the workplace. 

It is not uncommon for these kinds of people to expect more from you than they should. Maybe they expect you to cover for the shortcomings of their work, or they see no issue with helping themselves to your lunch in the breakroom refrigerator. Whatever their annoying habits may be, it is easy to let them overtake your thinking when you would prefer to be focused on the job. These types simply cannot help but stir the pot with you in it. While learning how to manage their behavior is a valuable skill, it still detracts from what you are ultimately there to do and makes the workday seem longer.

  • In this post, a woman described her frustration with one of her colleagues who appeared to feel entitled to share the food that she cooked. He asked her if she had tried any new recipes recently, and when she told him that she planned on cooking tacos later in the week, he demanded that she bring him some afterwards.

    She was taken aback by this bold request, not least because she knew this coworker usually had meals cooked for him by his mom. As a result, her response to him was skeptical. She felt the need to rant about it, and maybe seek some advice on how to handle him in the future.

  • "Bring me some tacos, since they are my favorite food and you're making them for dinner."

    A co-worker asked me if I had tried any new recipes lately. I have not, and told him I was making tacos for dinner this upcoming week. He says to me "bring me some tacos" with a flat tone. A statement instead of a question. I asked "you'd eat food that another person has cooked?"

  • He gave me a severe stink-face and said with an attitude "Why wouldn't I? They're my favorite food." First of all, he's a grown man (50's) living with his mom. He had told me that she made tacos for him already last week.

I'm a single income person living on my own. I drive and have utilities to pay, plus rent. His mom buys the groceries and he gives her some money if she asks for it, while I buy my own food.

  • Why would I give food away that I bought for myself, by myself, and give it to someone who can afford to buy their own ingredients and make the tacos themselves? My mom laughed and said I was mean, but I don't think I am. I thought it was ride for him to tell me to give him some of my food.

  • ApprehensiveCut9809 I'd tell him no and leave it at that. As for your question to him, "you'd eat food that another person has cooked?" is quite odd. People eat food other people have eaten all the time. You ever go to a restaurant, cafeteria, food truck/stand? How about a pot luck
