One man's notice period waiver is another man's big offense or whatever

I don't get it; this would be a total fantasy for me. We're talking about a fully paid week of labour, in which we don't have to work at all, and you get to prepare for your next job. It's like a vacation but better. If I were the manager, I would file this under the 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' category and move on. The employee can always organize a different going-away celebration.

  • The only thing that troubles me is that the employee says she can’t spend that much time in her house; that’s the only part that makes me question my position. In that case, changing the management decision would only be for the sake of helping someone out, and that might be an interesting decision considering how things are usually handled in corporate environments. It would be nice to take some decisions from a place of sheer empathy. It can’t hurt that much to have the employee working a little less and reorganize her last days for her convenience; in the end, she is not doing something as bad; she is just saying that she wants to stay. It could even work as part of a process in which the load of work she had transfers to the other employees. If she isn’t problematic in general, I don’t see why granting her that would be that awful. Am I in the wrong here?
