AITAH for towing half the neighborhood ?

My family (wife's side) [has] a summer apartment in the south of France in a gated community, all year there [are] no parking issue[s], but in summer, since Airbnb came out, it's h I to find a parking spot since there is no allocated spot.

There is a place with no clear parking line (imagine a big square of concrete) where everyone can park for free.
  • 04
I had the opportunity with 3 neighbors to buy this "parking" to the [co-ownership] (it's like an HOA but with less power here) so we [bought] it last. year. We made 6 larges parking spaces for our cars. with lines and plate numbers in front of each parking spot, and put a gate which is always open for the other neighbors to park here (you can park 3-5 other cars).
  • 05
Here in France, July and August are 2 months [when] almost everyone is [on] vacation so Airbnb and location peak here during this period.
  • 06
Last week, one of the neighbors | [bought] the parking with told me the parking was PACKED and he managed to park only one of his 2 cars on a unnasigned parking spot ( his parking spots were taken, mine too and the third neighbor too and every "free" slot too) so he put a warning sign [saying] parking is for residents only and not for anyone else.
  • 07
Cue 2 days ago when I [came] with [my] wife and kids for vacation, I drove by night to avoid traffic, and when I got there (3 AM) parking is packed. I [had] no choice but to park 300 meters (1k feet) from my home.
  • 08
[The] next morning we put a large sign [saying] cars on assigned parking spot would be towed and text every neighbor to ask for their plate to not tow a resident.
  • 09
Today morning same SO 1 we close the gate, phone the police and got everyone towed.
  • 10
Sh-hit-the-fan, bunch of Airbnb people called the cops and homeowners to ask why they got towed and the location was saying "with parking" so a lot of refunds [were issued] where [demanded]. My phone was ringing nonstop today.
  • 11
Some homeowners [say] they [are] gonna sue for the refund they got, some Airbnb [guests said] they will sue for the towing cost. We have everything documented.
  • 12
Lots of Airbnb homeowners tell us we ATAH here because we didn't tell them ahead [of time], but [we put up lots of signs regarding the parking rules over the last year since we bought it], they just hadn't seen them, and they approved the [sale of this parking to us], SO...

Sorry for the bad english, obviously not my first language, and I'm [angry] right now. So are we TAH here for towing everyone here?

OfficialBroccoliRob NTA. Airbnb has made parking a nightmare in a lot of places. The real issue is owners advertising amenities they don't control.
  • 16
sunrisemisty You warned them, they didn't listen. Tough sh for them.
  • 17
    NO PARKING ANY TIME

spilledteacups So to clarify the spots are clearly marked? I don't think you are the a h le here. If your answer is that the spots were clearly marked and it sounds like you gave them plenty of notice. I don't see the issue. I think this is the fault of the people that are running the Airbnb.

redpoppy42 NTA. If I saw a parking sign in a language I didn't understand, I would either figure it out to see what it said or just not park there. I google parking situations whenever I'm going somewhere unfamiliar.
  • 20
Relief Opposite6642 airbnb is destroying our community. good for you for getting them towed
  • 21
Designer_Thought2907 NTA, what are they gonna sue for? You getting illegally parked cars towed?

teresajs NTA Airbnb owners should not be advertising parking that they don't own. Talk to your co- owners about having other cars towed regularly from your shared lot.
  • 24
Stunning-Title3909 Have your documents at the ready. NTA. Those owners need to respect "their" neighbors.
  • 25
ShesQuackers And this is why our copro banned Airbnb and the like at our last assemblée générale. We're in the south too and it's a plague in our already impossible rental market. Force à toi!
  • 26
Chance-Contract-129( NTA. Not your fault that sume people don't learn until not learning starts to get expensive.

Valuable-Locksmith47 Not your fault. Hope the judge laughs them outta court

Worth-Season3645 NTA...AIR BNB owners need to know their own properties, what goes with them, etc. Why is it up to you to tell them? They should ask. Or do their own research. As for the cars towed, that is between the renters and the owners of the BNB.
  • 30
Relevant-Astronaut27 NTA you marked the spots. clearly, posted signs clearly, provided warnings clearly. The Airbnb owners are TAH. They took advantage of the spot you and your neighbors bought and marked. They are responsible for not clearly stating to renters. Good on you and your neighbors taking a stand.
  • 31
jjdom NTA, AirBnB is a ripoff and hurts communities.
  • 32
Tasty Orange_1714 NTA. You had the spots clearly marked, gave warnings, and then had them towed. Your property, your rules. Airbnb owners are just salty for their own mess up.
  • 33
Polygnom NTA. They are trying to take advantage of you, by selling an Airbnb with parking that does not, in fact, have parking. Airbnb is a cancerous business model that brings out the worst in people.
  • 34
Chemical-Scarcity964 NTAH There were warning signs, they ignored them. In the USA we call that "f around and find out"
  • 35
TararaBoomDA NTA. If the AirBnb folks were claiming that parking was included, they're the ones who effed up.
