The counter is the purrfect place to keep an eye on whatever the human is making. You can't expect a cat to trust that dinner is coming together properly without a little supervision. Every ingredient deserves a sniff, every cutting board deserves a closer look, and every plate should be inspected before it's served. It's not being nosy, it's quality control. Someone has to make sure the kitchen is running smoothly, and cats have happily volunteered themselves for the job.

Some people decorate their countertops with fancy coffee stations or neatly organized snack corners. Cat pawrents know there's another section that appears all on its own. It doesn't need a label or a cute sign because the cat has already claimed it. Before long, everyone in the house just accepts that one corner permanently belongs to a furry little supervisor who insists on overseeing every meal, snack, and late-night trip to the kitchen.

If you have more than one cat, the kitchen counter somehow becomes the place to be. One hops up, another follows, and before long they're all sitting there together like they planned it. Nobody knows what they're discussing, but it must be important enough to interrupt whatever the humans are doing. Maybe they're comparing nap schedules, maybe they're deciding who gets the sunny spot next. Either way, the daily counter meeting seems to stay right on schedule.
