A few of my classmates found these kids outside our college dorms when they were about four and a half weeks old.

I have a single room, so I offered to take them in. We're all full-time students, most of us had zero experience with unweaned kittens, and our dorms have a no- pets policy and monthly inspections, so raising them has been a real journey.

Thankfully we somehow didn't screw up too badly and they're doing great now (and are naturally super well socialized as a result of being raised by a bunch of college students, LOL).

Their names are Spicy, Soy Sauce, Ranch, and Ramona (formerly Barbecue but I renamed her once I decided to adopt her haha).

Unicorn-1- These little guys are literal sunshine in fur form you even pull off raising How did unweaned kittens in a dorm (the no-pets policy sneakiness is iconic)?! Their names are chef's kiss (Ranch & Soy Sauce... I'm hungry now) look at them all snuggled up, my heart can't take it You're all heroes for saving these silly cuties!

OP TONDEMO-WONDERZ It's been a lot of sneaking around!! When they were still in their noisy infant stage, we would play loud music a lot to try and cover up their meows, especially during feeding times. And during scheduled room inspections I sneak them into a friend's room in another dorm (usually while also playing loud music to cover their meows in the stairwells). So I guess the key to hiding them has been loud music, haha. Also helps that my RA and neighbors are super chill.

Kiss_The_Nematoad Are you in USA? If you get a doctor or therapist to write a note, you can have an emotional support animal. 4 kittens = 4 emotional support notes.
  • 15
OP TONDEMO-WONDERZ I'm in China, not sure what the laws are exactly but I know my school doesn't allow exceptions for emotional support animals. If all goes well with adoptions they won't have to be dorm stowaways for too much longer though.

SurryStreetResident So which one is Ramona? :)
  • 18
OP TONDEMO-WONDERZ She's the one with the white paws that has more white on her face :) she's furthest back on the 1st, 7th, and 9th slides, and right at the front on the 10th slide!

Flwr98 Thank you for saving them! I'm guessing there was never any sighting of their mother? they looked well cared for so maybe you could put a trap out for her?
  • 21
OP TONDEMO-WONDERZ Their mom actually lives on our campus! She appeared on campus right before giving birth, and stuck around after abandoning the kids. She's barely more than a kitten herself and has an injured leg - when we took her to the vet to be spayed, they gave her a checkup and found out that she underwent a slightly botched surgery for a leg fracture sometime before she showed up here :( We have no idea how it
  • 22
happened or who took her in for the surgery, but the whole ordeal must've been pretty traumatic since she was super aggressive towards people for a long time. We think she was also having trouble taking care of the babies as a result of it, since she and the kittens were all super underweight by the time she abandoned them.
  • 23
The good news is that she's been doing a lot better since leaving the kids!! She's gained a lot of weight, warmed up to people a lot, made friends with some of the other strays, and her leg seems to be healing a bit. If the issues persist we'll hopefully take her back to get the surgery redone.

HeartbreakRemission Are you each adopting one of the kittens? How cute they are!! Would love to hear more about how you managed to keep them a secret in a no pets dorm room!!
  • 26
OP TONDEMO-WONDERZ I wish! Most of my friends aren't able to bring home pets right now for whatever reason, so we're looking for adopters right now.

For the dorm part, it's mostly just been a lot of sneaking around. When they were still in their noisy infant stage, we would play loud music a lot to try and cover up their meows, especially during feeding times. And during scheduled room inspections | sneak them into a friend's room in another dorm (usually while also playing loud music to cover their meows in the stairwells). So I guess the key to hiding them has been loud music, haha. Also helps that my RA and neighbors are super chill.

kuzubijin I'm giggling at the thought of a dorm-wide conspiracy to hide the kittens during the monthly inspection. All of you are wonderful people for making it work for these little guys!!

HotChemistrygirl Right? It's like a tiny furry sitcom in your dorm, and those names are just brilliant. Who knew college could come with such adorable distractions
