Soprano’s Fragrantica Scent Notes: Beloved character’s 'olfactification' using the 2000s layout for the perfume encyclopedia website

You probably don't even smell it when it happens, right?

For a long time, I thought I was the only one who used Fragrantica. I used to spend hours researching this website, and I honestly found compelling user comments that were practically essays about what a fragrance conveyed. In those lonely, ridiculous hours put in researching perfumes, I understood something deeper about fragrances.

Most of the time, they evoke memories, places, flavours, and more intangible traits like character and mood. You can set up an entire scene through fragrance. For example, if you layer the scent of humidity, wool, cinnamon, and cookies, you might remember your grandma; and if you layer sweat, dust, Doritos, and chalk, you might recall your favourite memory from high school.

There are infinite ways to recreate a concrete scenario, or even a conceptual one, through fragrance. That's why I was thrilled when this trend started, and I'm still thrilled every time I see it around social media. That's pretty much the only barrier the internet hasn't managed to cross; it can create and reproduce images, text, and sound, but still no touch, taste, or smell. Will 3D printers print olfactory molecules in the future? Do they already? Can we play with them and create fragrance for every fictional character we love?

Apparently, 3D printers don't print smell, but scent synthesizers do exist, and they blend, modulate, and release fragrances in real time. To me, this would be an excellent game. And If it were marketed right, we would be creating all kinds of delusional aromas.

Through this post, I've discovered it's way easier to close your eyes and visualize something than it is to ‘olfacize’ it, lol; we don't even have a word for it.
Truth be told, I was disappointed to read Anthony Junior doesn't smell like gabagool, but I can let it go. Personally, if I had to choose, I would wear Tony's fictional cologne; it is by far my favourite, but if we're being honest, it should include gunpowder notes. God, I'm going to end up watching the show all over again for the third time. I wish I could live in it.
