This is why corporate culture always feels a little like a casino in a blazer. The company gets to write the rules, hide them in the fine print, and then act offended when the worker notices the table is rigged.
Employers love calling everything an investment when they’re spending the money, then call it a debt when a worker tries to leave. Apparently learning where the breakroom is now counts as career enrichment. Next they’ll be billing people for the emotional labor of finding the copier paper.
A job can underpay, overpromise, and waste everyone’s time, but the second someone quits, it suddenly remembers how to be a financier. Very generous. Very normal. Completely not a parody of modern work at all.
