Why would a sister behave like this? Younger sister eats leftover birthday cake from older sister in just 3 days without leaving any for her family: 'She eats my snacks, takes my clothes.'

  • It was my birthday 3 days ago (yay) and obviously we had a cake, but since my family and I dined out, we didn't exactly eat the cake and brought it back home untouched. After getting home, the cake was cut and everyone had a slice. Since we were all tired and had work/school the next day we decided not to slice the entire cake and leave it in the fridge as is. Now I'm in university, and I don't stay on campus, meaning I have to drive an hour in commute. So I'm usually gone for the entire day and

  • The reason I mention this is because I didn't get time to literally just enjoy my own birthday cake because I was so occupied for the entire week. I finally got time today because one of our classes was cut short so I got home early. When I searched for it, the entire cake was gone. I know for a fact it wasn't my parents who would eat the entire cake in the span of three days even if they wanted to because of health issues. So the only remaining culprit is my sister and to confirm my suspicions
  • confirm it. I snapped at her, and I mean I'm spitting supersonic waves from my mouth kinda snapped. She responded (or rather shot back) that, "How was I supposed to know you or anyone else didn't have the cake. It's not like I stopped you from eating any, you should've said something, like told me to save you some." And this is true. She didn't stop me nor did she do it out of spite. So I feel like I'm in the wrong for being so disproportionately angry especially
  • because she asked me to apologize for shouting at her. Should I just apologize? But I feel wronged and it's not her first time doing something like this either. She eats my snacks, takes my clothes, and has a similar reaction and reason, and to be fair she's not exactly wrong each time. Edit: There's some confusion so let me clarify, everyone didn't each have one single respective slice. We shared THE one slice after I cut it because no one bothered cutting more slices.

  • Inevitable-Cancel219 NTA. She ate an entire birthday cake and somehow thinks the problem is that you didn't specifically tell her to leave some?
  • Opening-Sir-2504 It would be a cold day in h I if I ever told someone else to "save me some" of my own n birthday cake. d NTA. Sis is.
  • Spectre_Omega NTA. You shouldn't have to put name tags on your own birthday cake in your own house. Devouring an entire birthday cake in three days and playing dumb with "you didn't tell me to save you any" is wild. She owes you a replacement cake.
  • JackfruitBitter7692 NTA. The fact she ate your entire birthday cake in three days, knowing it was specifically for your birthday, is wild. Your blow-up wasn't great, but the anger makes sense, especially with the pattern. I'd apologize for the yelling only, then clearly set boundaries: "Stop taking my food/clothes without asking," and maybe start labeling or keeping your stuff separate.
  • AgentMaryland2020 NTA - Imagine telling someone they need to specifically call dibs on something that is theirs. She had no restraint, if anything, she should have been asking you whenever she wanted a piece.
  • PavlovsPanties NTA. Your sister is entitled. It was YOUR BIRTHDAY CAKE. If your parents didn't say anything to her then they are just enabling her behaviour.
  • Adelucas She's got good at making reasonable excuses and you've fallen for it. If it's someone else's you ask first. That's the rule. Unless they say help yourself, you don't touch other peoples stuff or snacks. Your sister needs a good slap.
  • Several-Praline5436 NTA. Your sister was wrong to eat the entire thing but... honestly, if she eats your food and takes your clothes without asking, why would you assume she wouldn't touch your cake in three days and take some of it with you every day for lunch?
  • Kathrynlena "You should have told me to save you some." She should have known that eating 90% of an entire cake by herself makes her a pig and an a h le. She knew no one else was taking any. She knew it was yours. She just didn't give a single f about anyone but herself. She ate two or three pieces a day to finish a whole cake by herself in 3 days. NTA, but definitely don't apologize. She needs to sit with that shame for a little while.
  • Disastrous-Focus8451 She eats my snacks, takes my clothes, and has a similar reaction and reason, and to be fair she's not exactly wrong each time. So she eats your snacks and takes your clothes without asking, and her excuse is that you didn't say no? What's fair about that? Sounds like the cake is just the last straw for how she treats your things. Has she told you not to spit in her face, or take a dump in her bed? Guess it's OK for your to do that then! /s
  • Fuddlescuddles NTA, your sister should've asked if everyone had some cake before eating the last piece. Did your parents have any?? Bc if not then her excuse of 'how was I suppose to know' and the answer is well she's the only one grabbing cake and she saw how much she left on her last trip to it.
