It's the little things in life that have a way of getting you down. Sometimes it's not the huge, life-altering stuff that has a way of getting in your head and slowly eroding your sanity, it's the small things that add up over time. You know this if you've ever worked an annoying job. It's the cumulative effect of a lot of little things over time that end up being a big deal. When thing happen like this in the workplace, it can be hard to get over. All those small choices and circumstances are adding up to something greater than the sum of its parts. 

Sometimes employers want to squeeze something out of nothing. They want to find every way they can use their workers to increase the bottom line, even if that means sacrificing some amount of humanity. Certain employers would shake you down for the change in your pockets if they could. But that's generally frowned upon, so they find trickier ways to mess with your paycheck. There are so many ways to do this, and this story was just one example of that. They started thinking about all the ways they could squeeze a few cents out of the people who work for them, even if it was in a super annoying way. They might try to hide it in a policy change so you won't notice, which is why you have to stay on alert. That's what happened to this employee, who stumbled upon a policy that he didn't quite think was fair.
