Neighbor demands 19-year-old pay her for damage to her vehicle after backing onto her lawn and over her garden stakes—when the local authority makes her remove them, she plants a shrubbery instead

A garden stake like the one in the story.
Popular-Ad1111 Nope. The way a person drives and damages their own vehicle should be their problem.
eat_my_feelings NTA. The stakes are marked clearly it sounds like. She's just mad that she wasn't paying attention and damaged her own car. Stand your ground.

NotYourNanny Send her a bill for damaged stakes. And notify appropriate authorities of the threats.

HarveySnake She threatened you and almost certainly damaged some of your stakes. You should file a police report for both the threat and the property damage. I don't think this is something you should ignore.

InvestigatorJaded261 You are young, so she thinks she can push you around. NTA.

Jodi 4869 No but Let police know of the threat. Covers yourself.
via belIaboo123
MuchDevelopment7084 Make a police report about the damaged stakes. Let them know that she's already admitted to you that she's the one that hit the stakes. And that she's made threats to you of 'significant damage'. Have fun with it.

Outside-Carpet-6236 said "if you don't pay up, there will be significant damage, I can guarantee that!" This is a threat and should be reported to local authorities to insure it is on record. If she does actually cause damage, the fact she is known to have threatened to do so is part of a pattern considered for motive and premeditation. Even just issuing the threat is a crime in many jurisdictions.

fidelesetaudax NTA. Really, other than cameras watching your property, what else can you do but go about your life as if she doesn't exist.

flyinggarbanzobean Well I'm glad the other neighbors are blaming her and not you. I'd still put up a couple security cameras so you'll have evidence if she decides to follow through on her threat.

emtrigg013 Oh my goodness, LOL. This is a very satisfying update!! Not only will your street be prettier but she can't exactly blame a rose for a dent in her bumper either Enjoy your new shrubbery! Also, "walks like 10 men" cracked me up. I totally know the type you're talking about! Take care!

rocketmn69_ Get your shrubbery license before everyone else. When you remove a post, plant a shrub right then and there, before you remove the next post
via belIaboo123
mynameisnotsparta I would put cameras up where you're gonna plant your bushes this way if she backs up and damages them then you can have visual proof.

olliedog1414 A shrubbery license? Lol. Sounds like something from monty python

DemMilkshakes This is hilarious. She'll be the scapegoat of the community for a good while. Hopefully, you'll have some peace now A perfect example of karma in action!

snafe_ I've seen people just get small boulders to place on the verge, very common in Ireland. I don't understand how the council can tell you to remove anything from your land. But a nice shrubbery sounds good regardless.
