  • My coworker opened my pay stub. I am not worthy.

I have over 10 years of practicing and teaching in a rare, specialty branch of Healthcare. I took a 6 years hiatus for school and battling illness. I've been back working in a small healthcare company for a year now. Everything has been fine until I
  • noticed the cold shoulders, petty comments, and catty vibe. Not long after, I received a phonecall from one of my bosses asking if I ever told someone about my pay because the gossiping was going around. The management is now having a tough time dealing with a few of senior staffs who have been there for over 10 years but make a lot less than me.

  • I was told that the paycheck peeper was caught and talked to (Not the lady that just scolded me). She claimed that it was left opened. (No. I checked my pay stub, put it back in the envelope and placed it in my drawer so going into my personal space to retrieve personal information is

  • not nice.) I was called incompetent despite having higher credentials, formal trainings, years of experience plus teaching, therefore I do not deserve the highest pay than everyone. The comments sting since I never had complaints/writeup about my work performance, ever. I was

Problem is the management now also implied that I was hired with high expectations but I still don't quite deliver and I'm still not a strong person to handle certain tasks. I don't feel safe from the job security and workplace buying anymore.

  • Have you ever had conflict about the pay with your coworkers? I love my specialty line of work and everything that comes with it. Part of me wanted to give it a go for 3 more months to prove them wrong, but part of me wants to start looking for a new job. As I mentioned that my line of work is rare and pays more I will have to take a hugh chunk of paycut or commute 2 hours to the nearest facility.

  • Commenters gave their takes on what was going on here.

SuluSpeaks I would fire the snooper. Since that isnt happening, just start looking.

  • Outrageous-Battle199 Get mad, dude. They went in your personal space and hurt their own feelings. Find your backbone and tell your coworkers to grow the f up and deal with it. You are not responsible for the amount they make. They are. If they want to make more, take it up with your bosses and leave you the f alone.

  • And tell your managers you are unhappy with the way they've been handling the bu ying and snooping, and it's outrageous and unprofessional that they've allowed this to continue. Put them on blast. Now. I promise you'll feel better about absolutely everything, and you'll know afterwards whether it's better to stay or go.

  • Mira_DFalco OK, Just gonna put out there that OPs coworkers are angry at the wrong person. OP didn't know anything about what other people were being paid. If the haters wanna hate, they need to look at the people that set the pay standards.

  • That being said, the person who got caught snooping through their coworker's personal paperwork should be kicked to the curb. There is no way they didn't know they had no business getting into a colleague's desk and going through their paperwork.

I want to know why this wasnt brought up before my personal information was leaked, and if youre just trying to appease everyone who got their feelings hurt? Are you looking for an excuse to get rid of me because other people are mad?"

  • I doubt they will, but If they insist that your performance is an issue, deman they give you clear shortfalls that you can work out, and ask them what they're going to do about the employees who went through and shared your pay.

  • You didnt do anything wrong, and theyre you over to appease everyone. Send a sort of subtle message that youre in a position to cause them alot of problems both legal and otherwise if they dont play their cards right, and get that dumb f who went through your pay stub a one way ticket to the unemployment office.

This way, if you get fired/demoted and there's no prior issues with your work, you have a case to sue your employer. But you need it filed with HR first.
