'For $70k you don't get a $20 shower head': College student calls out spartan shower facilities in dorm

Students are paying good money for this.

Those attending college have plenty to look forward to when it comes to going back to school or even going there for the very first time. They get to expand on their education, provided they don't use ChatGPT for everything, and enjoy the freedoms of adult life without as many of the responsibilities that come after they graduate. They get to spend some time figuring out what they want to do with their newfound maturity, or whatever is happening in its place while they continue to grow up.

Perhaps one of the most impactful things that happens when the average student goes to college is that they spend a lot of money or, more likely, go into a lot of debt for the privilege of being there and getting the opportunity to achieve a qualification. It can be an eye-watering sum, especially when taking into account the cost of accommodation as well. By this measure, it isn't wrong for somebody to hope that they get decent quality tutoring and facilities when they go through this momentous life transition. After all, there is every likelihood they are going to spend a long time afterwards paying for them.

  • It may be true that we can't expect college dorms to be the peak of luxury, and most students ultimately see them as a rite of passage and a way to appreciate better the nicer accommodation that they hopefully find themselves in afterwards. Nonetheless, it is still a significant expense, and it is only fair to expect a certain level of comfort in a place that is going to be their home for the next year minimum.

    A student and TikToker did not feel reassured by the shower facilities in her dorm, feeling that they were not up to standard. When she exposed them, many people agreed that those bathrooms needed an upgrade sooner rather than later.

If universities realize this can be a dealbreaker for some talented, prospective students, then they will take it more seriously.
