Kittens can be very purrsuasive.

When you live in rural farmland, anything is possible. You could suddenly come across a deer one day who wants to say hi, you can find a cat sleeping on your car one morning. You could go for a walk to encounter all sorts of critters and creatures, and eventually you have to adjust to them the way a city dweller has to adjust to homeless people, city trash, traffic, or constant noise. In the story below, a couple's coworker finds kittens in their barn. He's looking to rehome some of them and they live near a lot of farm land. They have mice that come into the house and even into their cars. The girl in the relationship has always wanted a cat since her family always had cats, but her boyfriend is allergic to them. They decide to take two but just not let them in the house, and that's when the internet comes in with bulldozing advice: take medicine. There are countless anecdotes below of people saying that themselves or someone they know is on medication for allergies, but it's just one pill per day. Farm life gives us so much that we can't experience in other settings. There's such a beautiful stillness and staidness to the life of barn life. The rural atmosphere feels like a breath of fresh air, the silence can contain you and calm you in ways you didn't know you needed. Our nervous systems are always in hyperdrive from the constant stimulation we experience on a daily basis. Maybe we weren't supposed to work in front of a screen 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Maybe we weren't supposed to commute through traffic and people and busy streets and traffic lights. Maybe we weren't supposed to be indulging in screentime in our off time at all hours of the day when we're “resting.” The farm life brings us something vestigial and forgotten, so here's to the barn kittens.
