A pharmacy worker hands something out to a customer
Why am I expected to go above and beyond at $20/hour?
Commenters gave their takes on this story.
If you feel like going above and beyond, then that's on you, but you should never be punished for not doing things outside of your job description. Not everybody is going to be as invested in the business as the owner is. And that is by design. They're taking on the most risk and stand to gain the most if the business does as well. The hourly workers will likely earn the same wage, no matter what. So it's no wonder that the person in the story bristled at the thought of going above and beyond for a job that didn't pay them that well. They wanted their boss to see the way they did, and to stop punishing them without reason.
