'My mom says she's ugly': Brothers rescue an injured kitten while their parents are on vacation, and end up in such a fight with them over it that one brother makes her adoption legally irreversible

When you know you have to save the cat, you just do it, no questions asked.

Imagine yourself as a teenager or a young adult, still living with your parents. Imagine your parents are the kind to not agree to almost anything - even if it's the right thing to do. Such as, for example, saving a kitten who needed her paw amputated. This is not a regular stray kitten, as you can understand. She really needed the help that was given to her - but that help did not come without a struggle. The brothers who saved this tiny kitten were met with very strong resistance to the rescue and adoption process by none other than their parents.

With that being said, there's the extra detail that this kitten is no less than the ninth cat in their household. I'm not saying that nine cats is a lot of cats, because it depends on many parameters like the size of your property, and your energy and financial means to raise such a substantial number of cats, but… Yeah, nine cats is a lot of cats. But when you're a cat person, how many cats are really too many? You always want to save them all.

The thing is, when a cat is in such a dire need of help - like this one who needed her paw removed - they'd never have survived on their own. This is something that has to be understood by people. Some cats need urgent help, and at least a good foster period before they're safe. But you know how parents and their kids sometimes are - the brother made sure his angry father couldn't do anything to remove this ninth sweet addition to the family ever. The adoption was finalized as soon as he could.
