Feral cat refuses to stop showing up at couple’s door, so they take a chance on bringing him inside

Some former feral cats take their sweet time deciding whether hoomans can be trusted, but once they do, you might just end up with the biggest cuddle bug around.

Iggy first appeared back in January during what his future family now calls his "outdoor era." He had grown up around a neighborhood and was familiar with people, but getting anywhere near him was another story. Pets were absolutely off the table, and Iggy preferred keeping a safe distance from those suspicious two-legged creatures.

His future pawrent started feeding him and slowly earning his trust. In March, Iggy was TNR'd, and over the next couple of months, things really started changing. By May, the formerly skittish feline was approaching for pets, sitting on laps, and even letting his favorite hoomans pick him up. Talk about a glow-up.

Then June brought a problem: the family was moving.

They tried gradually reducing Iggy's meals, but apparently nobody had informed him about this plan. He kept showing up at their door asking for dinner, and leaving him behind became impossible. Rather than risk relocating him outdoors somewhere unfamiliar, they decided to give indoor life a shot.

The first few days were a little shaky, but Iggy figured out the litter box and began settling into his new surroundings. There was also the small matter of the family's three resident cats, including one particularly territorial feline who has an entire floor to himself.

Luckily, Iggy found himself a friend. He quickly bonded with one of the boys, and the pair are now besties.

These days, Iggy is confident, comfortable, and apparently very happy with his retirement from outdoor life. That cautious neighborhood cat who once wouldn't accept a pet is now cuddling on the couch with the hooman who spent months earning his trust.

We'd say Iggy's indoor era suits him pretty darn well.

    He's still young; the vet estimates 1 or 2. By May, he was coming up to me for pets, letting my husband and I pick him up, sitting on our laps, etc.

    We had to move in June and tried to wean off of feeding him but he wouldn't stop showing up at our door and begging for food. We couldn't bear to leave him behind

  • Everybody on the internet is officially sending Iggy all the hugs, kisses, and virtual scritches he can handle. After watching this sweet boy go from keeping his distance to curling up on the couch with his favorite hoomans, how could anyone resist? We just want to reach through the screen and give him one giant cuddle. Iggy worked hard to become the confident little lovebug he is today, so please consider this the internet’s collective delivery of approximately one million kisses.

  • Iggy looks so safe and sound that he’s literally smiling in his sleep. This is one very happy kitty. After spending so much time outside and being nervous around hoomans, he can finally curl up on the couch without a care in the world. We’d love to know what he’s dreaming about with that little smile on his face. Maybe treats, his new bestie, or just how nice it is to have a warm, cozy place to call home.

  • Going from outdoor life to indoor life is a pretty big upgrade, and Iggy seems to be figuring that out very quickly. No more worrying about where his next meal is coming from or finding somewhere safe to sleep. Now he’s got cozy couches, regular meals, plenty of pets, and even a feline bestie to hang out with. We’d say he got a pretty sweet deal. At this rate, we doubt Iggy has any plans to return to his outdoor era anytime soon.
