game, I spotted a small sandy dog with a nice looking couple. They were a bit off the side of the field, and I went up to them. Me: "Excuse me, but you have a lovely dog. May I pet it?" Them: "Sure no problem!"

I crouched and began petting the dog. I was maintaining eye contact with the couple while I was absentmindedly playing with the dog's hair, and I asked them what breed it was, where they got, what its name was, etc. Then the woman looked at the dog, looked at me, and gave me an incredibly spine chilling

glare. Her: "Why are you petting my child?" I looked down and looked closely at the dog for the first time. To my horror, I saw that I was petting a sandy-haired, kind of scruffy 4ish year old kid who, for this entire time, was crouched on the ground and drawing circles in the sand. The

dog was right next to him. I wanted the earth to open up and swallow me. I wanted to roll over and d. I wanted someone in a large black helicopter to fly over and drop a rope ladder and cart me off to Texas.

I didn't really listen to the rest because I was internally screaming and that sort of drowned her out. I apologized profusely, but she still seemed upset. I later heard her complaining to the other moms on the softball team (her daughter is on my sister's team) who all seemed really confused.

Ok I am going to address a few common questions and statements first before I give the update: were you high: no are you a pedo: no that mom overreacted: ok let me give some context. I am socially inept so whenever I see things that excite me (like DOGS or

PINGU YEAH PINGU NOOT NOOT .) I wave my arms in a happy dance and trot over to the object of my excitement. Looking back, I can see that my expression of joy at seeing her dog probably threw the mother off, and I am sure that petting her kid didn't make things better. I am going to give her the

benefit of doubt and I really don't resent her for her response (if anything she was more flabbergasted than angry) because I know she was just worried about her child. This incident taught me that I should work on my social skills so that I do not upset people in the future.

while kind of confused by my petting actions, didn't really care that much so there was no weirdness there. Also, I played softball with a couple of their older daughters, so many of the parents know and like me. While I was waiting, I saw the kid's mother. I decided that I was not

going to engage with her and that I was going to stay far away from her and her kid even though petting him was a mistake. To my surprise, she actually came up to me! She stared awkwardly for a few seconds, and asked how I was doing. I said I was fine. The dog with her walked towards me and wagged his tail. She said "oh looks like he

wants to say hi!" I asked if I could pet her dog and she said yeah. HOORAY! I pet the dog and we both joked about what had happened with her kid. She didn't apologize or anything but that's fine because she has an excellent and splendid dog.
