Rescuer who saved stray subway cat ignored by millions of commuters gives heartwarming update from Enzo’s furever home

Cats are truly unpredictable creatures who can find themselves in quite the variety of places, especially when they get scared. Which is likely how this story's protagonist feline ended up finding itself tucked between the lines of an active subway station. Scurrying between hiding places he went for days being completely ignored by the millions of hoomans who passed through the station until one fateful day when a rescue was called to save his life before it would be too late. With the help of some humane traps the sweet boy was saved and got the happiest ending of all, getting to live out his days with the cat loving hooman who saved him from the station. And that loving hooman even went as far as to provide you with a heartwarming update on how little Enzo the subway cat was acclimatizing to his new luxury life.

Stories like this really pull on the heartstrings as it is tough enough to hear about cats who have found themselves in precarious situations such as out in the woods or diving into dumpsters. But when the place they have chosen to feel safe in is literally going to cause their demise it is a whole different ball game. I had one such experience when I had to rescue a cat from an apartment that was actively flooding. His pawrents were on holiday and I was feeding the poor kitty who I spent 2 hours trying to find in the studio apartment that was slowly filling up with water. Thankfully, I did find him and managed to coax him into his cage and took him back to my place, but that is when things took a turn for the worse sadly.

After releasing the terrified feline in my apartment I assumed he would find a hiding spot under the couch or in a cupboard and hangout there to decompress. But unbeknownst to me there was a small crack in the skirting boards of my kitchen which allowed this terrified feline to slip through and get to an even smaller hole in the brick work of the wall. When I finally found him he was half way into this hole which led to a hollow space between two brick walls that I would never be able to get him out of. I tried treats, I tried toys, everything to convince this catatonic kitty to come out and not climb into the void, but nothing worked. In the end it was only time that helped. I left the kitchen door open and made a trail of treats leading to a safe hiding spot and over night as I slept this kitty made the sensible decision to save himself, much like Enzo. Though unlike Enzo, the kitty I had dealt with was returned to his pawrents when they came back from vacation much to everyone's relief. So the moral of the story is to expect the unexpected, because cats can literally do and end up in the most insane places when they are full of fear.

It is unbelievable what us hoomans are capable of ignoring. Sure we might be busy, on our way to whatever the day might hold for us. But surely if we are not able to stop for even a second and bring attention to a soul or animal in need there must be something wrong with society?

A life between the tracks of a subway line is simply no place for a cat. Not only is there the imminent danger of the passing trains, the electrified tracks and the filth, but the sheer noise of the whole thing can completely disorient a sweet feline who has hearing hundreds if not thousands of times more sensitive than our own.

Thankfully after far more time than is reasonable someone stepped up and alerted a cat rescue to the situation who stepped in right away and made sure that this cat would not live this life any longer.

Finally trapped and away from the dangerous place that it had been living in, this cat gets to start a new. Hope can finally enter its heart and it will get to rest easy tonight.

Still full of fear, understandably due to the new hoomans and environment, things are not purrfect just yet. But we are sure that somewhere deep down this catto knows it is off to a better place than it was in before.
