As a person whose first language isn't English as well, I can relate to all of this - both the person who started it all with the cute rephrasing of “neuter”, and all the comments that ensued because of it. English mistakes are a natural part of any non-native speaker's journey when they speak it, even if they're 100% fluent. I consider myself fluent (I mean, I work here, I'm writing to you in English), but even I have some translation bugs when I speak to the people on the team here.
For example, I forgot how to refer to Churu when I told a story about my cat, and instead said: “…so I gave her this slimy-yummy thing she really likes.” Everyone understood what I meant, but it was still amusing. At another time, I tried saying McFlurry, but what came out of my mouth was “Fluffy Ice Cream”. I honestly think it's a combination of the fact that it's just not called “McFlurry” outside of English-speaking countries, and the fact that I'm using the word “fluffy” way more since I started working here a little more than two years ago. So much cat-related vocabulary has entered my daily speech.
