I never understood why the Little Mermaid TV show never gave her the correct hair color. I get that these TV shows were made for next to nothing, and the animation won't be as good as the movie. However, I don't think it would cost a boatload of money to give her the correct hair color. Heck, Sebastian is the right color! Her hair should be the same color as him!

The Little Mermaid is basically a hurt/comfort fic if you think about it.

Do you think she would have fared better if her legs didn't work, but she could speak? I think the challenge of not being able to communicate made kissing Eric much harder than not being able to walk would have. I am saying that, assuming she would've been able to swim up to the surface with pure arm strength alone, but who knows if she'd be able to do that?

What do you think Ariel's official dress should be? Disney has waffled between the pink dress in the movies and a teal dress that isn't in the movie but matches her tail color. I always wish they would use her shimmery dress at the end of the movie, but it's too 80s for them to actually use it. I think the pink dress clashes with her red hair, but I like that they actually include it in the movie! I also love the outfit she wears during "Kiss the Girl," but I suppose that's too casual to be her official dress. I think they ultimately dropped the pink dress because it resembled Aurora's dress too much, and at a time when Disney princesses were such a valuable IP as a collective, I understand that decision.

He was the first actually useful Disney prince in the Disney canon. Sure, Prince Phillip and Snow White's prince had magical kissing abilities, but they aren't heroic by any means. Cinderella's prince is so boring in the original movie. Prince Eric was the first of several Disney princes who made huge sacrifices and took major risks for the women they loved.

At that point, 2 out of the 3 existing Disney princesses were already blonde. I know 'Disney princess' wasn't a brand until the early 2000s, and a 1989 audience wouldn't have automatically tied Ariel to Snow White, Cinderella, or Aurora. It's interesting that this started a trend of non-blonde Disney princesses that would last until 2011 with Tangled.

I've always had a soft spot for Ursula. I was Ursula for Halloween when I was 9 (my mom and grandma made tentacles out of pool noodles), and I was Flotsam (one of her eels) in The Little Mermaid musical when I was 12.

Does the Disney Renaissance count as old Disney now? I thought that old Disney was the Disney movies made when Walt was still around!
