When I imagine what a home could mean for a shelter cat, I think about all the little things that can become familiar. A person's footsteps. Mealtimes. A sunny patch that appears in the same spot every afternoon. I'm grateful for the people who care for cats while they wait to be adopted, and I love the thought of that care continuing in a home where someone starts learning their habits.

The feeling I value most is being welcome. I live on my own now, but when I lived with my mom and my brothers, I think about how comforting it was to get home and know someone was waiting for me and happy I was there. Even when I was having a bad day, there was room for every version of me.
I imagine what that means to Bruce. He had people caring for him at the shelter, but I'm moved by the thought of someone making room for him in her everyday life. I hope she gets to know his favorite sleeping spots and the little noises he makes. I hope his presence becomes something she looks forward to coming home to, too.

I can imagine sitting there, needing to get up for something, and deciding it can wait. I wouldn't interrupt that peaceful first nap. When I think of him waking up after that first night, I love knowing he gets to stay. I hope, with each meal, each cuddle, and each morning in the same home, that sense of belonging becomes part of his ordinary life.
I think I would answer that question differently after watching Bruce. Having a home means having somewhere I can settle, but it also can mean making room for somebody else to settle beside me. I hope his human gets years of discovering his habits, adjusting her evenings around his naps, and finding him waiting in familiar places.
