If there's one thing I can promise, it's that I won't cook for you, but I can guarantee a few good laughs. I'm Celeste, a literary translator and lifelong student of the internet's universal language: memes! My academic background is in languages and literature, which means I've spent years studying how people communicate and tell stories. And since I'm trained to find the perfect way to connect with people through stories, that also makes me perfect at spotting a good meme. Just like a novel or any piece of art, memes can tell stories and capture emotions. We can even use memes as a substitute for an actual conversation. But the best part of it all is that memes are universal. A universal language spoken through screenshots. And after growing up online, I'd say I'm a fluent speaker. I've spent an embarrassing number of years studying memes and internet culture without even realizing I was studying them. Some people rely on textbooks, other people (me) rely on Instagram, Twitter, Reddit and TikTok. The good news? Now I'm qualified to write about them for a living. The bad news? There is no bad news. It sounds like a pretty good deal to me. When I'm not writing or searching for my next relatable post for Cheezburger, you'll find me listening to Taylor Swift’s complete discography, playing drums, or thinking about what I'm going to eat next. I'm always wondering what's for dinner. Either way, I'd probably have a meme for every occasion.
