Great Pyrenees doggo who lost her puppies in a fire gets second chance at being a mom again, and she's so very happy about it: 'Daisy immediately stepped in to care for them'

Daisy may have lost all of her puppies in a barn fire, but thanks to a heartwarming twist of fate, she didn't lose her opportunity to be a mom.

One of the unfortunate lessons you learn as an adult is that bad things happen to good people. Life isn't fair, to humans, animals, or any creature, and you can't always promise that doing good will protect you from all the bad. Take Daisy, for example. A loving Great Pyrenees pet, had next to no bad karma accumulated, was loved by everyone, and had just given birth to a healthy litter of puppies. Then, tragedy struck - she lost all her puppies in a barn fire. Her humans rushed to put out the fire and were able to save her, but not her babies.

But the universe wasn't done with Daisy yet. Not long after she lost her puppies and her purpose, a litter of 8 puppies were orphaned in a town nearby. Those babies needed exactly what Daisy seemed so desperate to give: warmth, milk, cleaning, cuddles, and the kind of constant maternal attention that makes raising puppies look like the least relaxing maternity leave imaginable. So, they brought the two parties together, and they just clicked. She had found her second chance.

Daisy began nursing them immediately, according to her owner. She slept beside them and found her joy again. Her family said that she stopped going back to the barn and started behaving much more like herself again.

We have a tendency to either humanize animals too much or not enough. You see a dog behaving differently after a loss and immediately want to write a full narrative of human grief for them. On the other hand, others dismiss animals' emotions altogether because they do not look exactly like ours. Reality, probably, is somewhere in the middle and much more interesting.

It's clear to anyone who's ever owned a dog that dogs form attachments. Mothers care for their young, no matter what species. We don't need to sit around and pretend that Daisy was contemplating the 5 stages of grief to understand the enormous loss she went through, but we can tell that caring for these puppies seemed to give her something meaningful to do again.

There are some stories that feel so pawfectly stitched together that, if I saw them playing across a movie screen, I would complain that the scriptwriters were laying it on a little thick. But, I secretly love it. It's a reminder that even in our darkest moments, it's still possible to find a silver lining.
I think more and more of us are getting swallowed by darkness, at least, I personally am. The state of the world is hard to look at sometimes, but it's stories like these that give me hope. If Daisy can do it, so can I!

Daisy's role in this story was always meant to be temporary. As soon as the puppies were old enough to be weaned, they would be returned home. There was no biological reason that these 8 little nuggets had to become her babies. And yet, when they needed a mom, Daisy showed up.
Temporary, however, does not mean unimportant. Without Daisy, these puppies might never have survived their first few months. 8 little souls needing care and 1 broken one came together to heal each other, and if that's not magical, then I don't know what is.
Healing doesn't always look the way you expect it to. For Daisy, it showed up as 8 hungry puppies, a few sleepless and tiring months, and an impawssibly happy face at the end.
