The smaller details of our lives we used to take for granted have now become the actual jewels of our past. One of the things I cherish most now that I’ve grown is the fact that smartphones, watches, highly advanced computers, and so on, were not really a thing yet. If you wanted to have some fun, there was no TikTok app to capture your attention. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate TikTok very much, mostly because it gives me excellent comedic pieces, but remembering the way I played outside with my friends makes me smile in a different way. Those moments were not special because we somehow had the best updated machines of any sort, but because they truly became unique experiences.

I remember I was having a playdate with my school friends on a cloudy Saturday afternoon, and our parents decided to take us to a nearby park. After a while, the clouds turned into rain, and the sky started falling down. It was pouring. Our parents began to rush us inside, but they realized we were still happily playing. So unknowingly joyful, in fact, that they made a one-time-only decision, as they decided to let us be. Yes, we were soaked when we came back home that day, but no YouTube video will ever match the feeling of playing with your friends while it rains. Not a care in the world, other than winning at hide-and-seek.

The excellent TV shows, the creative afternoon fun, the music hits that we still keep on our Spotify list. Yes, Millennials went through a lot, but we also got some of the best generational memory packs. That said, when things get a little too serious, may the good old days always remind us that the only thing needed to enjoy a rainy day is a group of good friends and slightly permissive parents.
