Don't expect people to do things for you just because you asked. You inquire if it is possible. You can receive a positive or negative response to that. And most importantly, you have to deal with it.
Entitlement is like a sickness that is spreading everywhere. You may think, as most stories are from the U.S., that it is just a local problem. Well, it's not. People everywhere are starting to act entitled and expect things to go their way. And what makes everything worse, they get so upset when they do not get what they want that they start to resemble a child with their temper tantrums and their lack of method to regulate themselves. As someone who has worked in customer service and knows a thing or two about entitled customers, I sometimes thought that these grown adults need a baby pacifier to calm down. If they want to ask like children, maybe they should also be treated that way…
My question when I read stories like this one is always, "Is there a way to make them understand that what they are doing is wrong?" "Can entitled people change for the better?" I have faith in humanity; that's why I will always pursue others to change, because I know it's possible. But the fact that it is possible to achieve doesn't mean that it's easy. Entitlement is worse than jealousy and meanness, because it's a combination of those two things powered by the thought that they are better than everyone else. That's why they deserve to get whatever they want. I hate entitled people's mentality. I cannot even fully understand it. They like to get what they want no matter the circumstances. I thought everyone had learned the meaning of the word 'no' as a child, but I guess these people didn't.
If you wanted something, asked for it, and they said no, and you argue. Then what isn't clicking in your brain? When you ask, you can receive a positive or negative answer. It is not as if just because you asked, you are able to do whatever you want. People can say no, and you have to accept it. If a teenage kid without a license asked to use the family car, the family would say no, but what happens if he uses it anyway? Well, he would at least get some kind of reprimand. But with adults, that isn't possible; that's why we have a lot of them acting entitled and arguing with people. Because they don't understand the word 'no', they don't get punished. They create a mess in the hopes of changing the other person's mind, and sometimes they achieve it. So what are we left to do? Put up with it forever, hoping that someday they learn and are mindful of other people? Cut ties with those people? That is for you to decide, but I wouldn't like to have a friend who acts this way, especially if they act this way towards me.
