I remember trick-or-treating as the highlight of the year when I was a kid. I would look forward to it for months, wondering what I was going to dress up as. I would pour over the Halloween catalog and circle things I wanted my mom to buy. I don't think she ever bought anything I circled, but she did help make it fun. There's something about being a kid and having the opportunity to wear something crazy that just tickled me pink. Halloween, of course, is a little different as you get older. It becomes less about the candy and more about the parties. But I ultimately feel that wholesome Halloween is the best Halloween. That doesn't mean you shouldn't have a few scares here and there, but I probably had the most fun on Halloween when I was 8 years old, not 22 years old. But time brings different things for us all, and we all have different ways of engaging with holidays. They say that Halloween is the millennial Christmas, and I feel that this is hugely true. It's the holiday we can all rally around no matter who we are, and have fun decking our houses to the nines. Plus, there are so many good movies that you should watch this time of year, be they scary or not scary. If you're a fraidy cat like me, there is still so much to be enjoyed.

Parenting during Halloween is all about keeping a cool head. It's all about being prepared to tackle anything. Last-minute costume changes, sugar crashes, unexpected tears after the neighbor's animatronic skeleton was a little too real- that's what you're here to tackle. But that doesn't mean you can't have your own fun, too. You don't stop wanting to have fun just because you became a parent. So take some time this week to buy yourself your favorite candy and watch a not-suitable-for-kids Halloween movie. Because you put all this work into putting up the decorations, and you're going to reap the benefit of it. Then you can come to this parenting tweets list to hear from other folks who know exactly what you're going through. So keep scrolling and enjoy them. You have all week to get into the spooky spirit.
