A Quick List Of Helpful Advice For If A Police Officer Pulls You Over

Is this list of seemingly obvious etiquette for when a cop potentially pulls you over helpful, or just too painfully simple? Maybe the simplest advice can be the most indispensable when life throws you a curveball. We can't vouch for the effectiveness of this "technique" but it might be worth a shot if you find yourself in a tight situation with a cop.

Text - If you ever get stopped while driving always tell the police officer, 'I'm glad you stopped me because..." That is a good start. It is non confrontational. It gets the officer on your side, even if you have committed a minor traffic offence. The officer will be distracted from his original aim.

Text - Now, the next part of it will be why. And this can be adapted to what you are actually doing, such as; 1. I am looking for directions to... 2. Can you tell me where the nearest toilet/chemist/petrol station is. 3. I'm lost... 4. I'm not feeling very well 5. My car has been playing up.

Text - Police officers, in the main, join the job to help people. Redirecting their attention from issuing a minor ticket to helping a member of the public is actually something they would prefer to be doing. Get it right, and the likelihood is they will help you and as an afterthought they might say something like; 'Oh by the way, get your taillight fixed/keep your speed down/remember to use your indicator. It is a win/win situation. You feel good and so does the officer.
