    Moving Around the Airport

a simple map showing the airport divided into sections by color: red, blue and yellow with a white background

Departures are located on level 2 of the airport. Getting there may require some traveling inside the airport, depending on where and how the passenger arrived to the airport. If coming from the bus, train or dropping off a rental car, passengers will arrive at the Miami Intermodal Center. From there, follow the signs and catch the MIA Mover

The MIA Mover is an automated people mover that transports passengers into the airport for free, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It takes around 10 minutes to get from the Miami Intermodal Center to the Central Terminal in the airport. Passengers will arrive in Central Terminal level 3, then take the escalator or lift down to level 2. Passengers being dropped off in a car can be driven directly to the outside of the departures doors on level 2.

Once inside the station, passengers can use the Skyride (a moving walkway) to move around on level 3, or if travelling to Concourse D (which is a mile long), they are able to use the Skytrain. The Skytrain has 4 stations along Concourse D, and trains arrive every 3 minutes. For more information about the airport, see the Miami Airport map below.

    Metrorail and TriRail Trains

Two train companies connect to Miami Airport: the Metrorail train and the TriRail train. The Metrorail has two lines; the Green Line connects with the airport from Palmetto, Okeechobee, Hialeah, Northside, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Brownsville stations, and the Orange line links the airport with Dadeland North, South Miami, University, Douglas Road, Coconut Grove, Vizcaya, Brickell, Government Center, Historic Overtown/Lyric Theatre, Culmer, Civic Center, Santa Clara, Allapattah or Earlington Heights stations.

Metrorail trains depart every 30 minutes during the week and every 15 minutes on the weekend. Tickets start at $2.25 for a one-way ticket. Have a look at the Metrorail timetable and map on its website.

The TriRail Line connects Miami Airport with Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, with many stops on the way. See a map of the TriRail stations and timetable on the TriRail website.

TriRail tickets start at $2.50 for one-way tickets. Both train fares increase with the distance traveled. Passengers can pay for their train tickets either with single-use tickets, or with an EASY Card. EASY Cards can be bought at Metrorail and TriRail stations, and can be topped up and used on all Metrorail, TriRail and Metrobus services in Miami.

Both the Metrorail and TriRail trains arrive at the Miami Intermodal Center, which is a short distance away from the airport. After passengers arrive there, they should look for signs directing them to the MIA Mover and follow the directions above for getting to departures on level 2.

Miami Beach Bus and Metrobus Buses

Several bus lines in the Miami area connect with Miami Airport. These include the Miami Beach Bus, which operates between 41st Street and South Pointe Drive, as well as the 37, 42, 57, J, 150 Miami Beach Airport Express, and the East-West Connection. To find out which bus line is closest and see timetables for all bus lines mentioned, see the Miami-Dade County website and the Metrobus website

Some other useful apps for journey planning are Google Maps, Moovit and Maps.me. Bus tickets cost $2.65 for one-way tickets, and any Metrobus buses can be paid with an EASY Card. Most buses heading towards the airport have luggage racks installed.

Buses leave roughly every 30 minutes, but see their timetables for exact times. All buses will arrive at the Metrobus Station in the Miami Intermodal Center. From here, passengers should follow the instructions above for getting to the departures area of the airport.

    Return a Rental Car

a sign hangs from the ceiling inside the Miami Airport saying 'Rental Car Agencies'

Passengers returning a rental car to the Rental Car Center (RCC) should drive their rental cars to the RCC, located at MIA Rental Car Center, 3900 NW 25th Street, Miami, FL 33142. When driving here, follow the overhead signs that direct drivers to the RCC. The Miami Airport website gives directions to the RCC, but Google Maps, Waze and Maps.me are useful apps for navigation. Once inside the RCC, follow the steps above for catching the MIA Mover from the RCC to the airport.

If passengers rented a car at a rental car company outside of the airport, many of the companies in close vicinity to the airport offer free shuttle bus rides to the departures section of the airport. It is best to contact the car rental company beforehand to confirm that a shuttle to the airport is available.

    Hotel Shuttle

Hotels in Miami and the surrounding areas often provide airport transfer shuttles to their customers. To understand if this is possible, passengers should contact the hotel they are staying at before leaving for a departing flight. Every hotel has different policies regarding hotel shuttle services, so it is best to contact the hotel well in advance of the departing flight. If the hotel was able to provide a shuttle upon arrival, it will most likely be able to provide this service for passengers on their way back to the airport.

SuperShuttle is the main airport transit company that operates to and from Miami Airport. SuperShuttle offers a range of different vehicles, from shared vans to private SUVs, and operates 24 hours a day. For more information about SuperShuttle's services, contact them via their website.

If unsure whether to take a taxi or a shuttle, compare the estimated price chart on the Miami Airport website.

    Taxi

Taxis are available to hire for airport transfers. Taxis can be booked in advance, and unless leaving outside normal hours (late at night or early in the morning), it is not necessary. There are many taxi companies in Miami, and passengers can compare their prices and ratings on Google. Call Taxi Miami has the highest rating.

Taxis are priced in two ways: flat rates (which can be seen on this fare comparison page) or with metered fares. Metered fares start at $4.50 for the first 1/6 mile, with $0.40 for each 1/6 mile afterwards. This equals $6.90 for the first mile and $2.40 for every additional mile. Each minute of waiting time costs $0.40.

When arriving at the airport, passengers should ask to be dropped at the departures level.

    Uber and Lyft

a woman bends down to the window of a sleek Lyft car to talk to the driver, with trees and buildings in the background

Ride-sharing apps Uber and Lyft are able to drop passengers at Miami Airport for a price that is usually cheaper than taxis. To use Uber or Lyft (which are similar to use), download the app from theApp Store or Google Play and open it. Users will be required enter their payment details, type of vehicle and pickup location. Uber and Lyft have different vehicles and different services, from carpooling to private luxury vehicles, so passengers should decide which option is best for them. After this, passengers should enter their pickup location, and drop off location (which should be departures on level 2).

After booking a car, passengers are able to view the location of and contact their driver if needed. Both Uber and Lyft have fare estimate pages on their websites. To see estimates for fares to areas in Miami, check out this Miami and Beaches article

    Drive There

a diagonal line of parked cars with a white angular car garage building in the background

Miami Airport is only 15 minutes away from Miami by car, so driving there is easy. If driving a vehicle there, passengers can use the following location in a navigation app: 2100 42nd Ave, Miami FL, 33142. Google Maps, Waze and Maps.me are useful apps for helping drivers get to Miami Airport, and the airport website provides driving directions.

There are two parking garages at Miami Airport: the Dolphin Garage, which is for passengers travelling from North Terminals D and E, and the Flamingo Garage, which is for passengers travelling from Central Terminals F and G, and South Terminals H and J. All vehicles parked in these garages are limited to a stay of 60 days maximum. Parking in these garages costs $2 per 20 minutes, with a daily maximum of $17.

Valet parking is available for those seeking a more convenient option. Passengers should drive their car to the departures area on the 2nd level of the Dolphin (North) and Flamingo (South) Garage where the signs for valet parking are, and a valet will pick up the car and drive it to the parking space. The cost for valet parking is $18 for 0-3 hours (first day only) and $30 for 3-24 hours. The maximum daily rate is $30 and there is a limit of 20 days for vehicles in Valet Parking.

Those requiring disabled or stroller-friendly parking spaces can use the accessible parking on level 3 and the ground level in all parking lots.
