Sentencing of the Day: “Fappening” Hacker Sentenced to 18 Months in Jail
Ryan Collins, the hacker responsible for the infamous celebrity nude photo leak of 2014, known to the world as sigh " the fappening," has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. Charged with felony computer hacking in March, Collins took a plea deal that reduced his possible sentence from five years in federal prison to a year and a half. In the court of public opinion, however, he'll be sentenced to life for being a) total creep and b) forcing us to say the portmanteau sigh "the fappening."
Investigators have found more than 600 victims in the hack, but some of the more famous targets for Collins included Kate Upton, Gabrielle Union, and Jennifer Lawrence. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Collins admitted to obtaining the photos, and other private information, through an email phishing scheme — but investigators never found any evidence that he shared or uploaded the images."
