Growing up in a house with more than one culture is always interesting. Heck, even if your parents are from the same street in the same town, they probably were raised with different values and expectations from their parents.

Generally speaking, often we have one parent who's a little more strict and has to play the ‘bad cop’ while the other gets to assume a more chill and laid-back role. Smart kids learn that dynamic pretty quickly and then they can adjust whom they ask for permission for certain things.

If you know mom is more strict about money, maybe you call your dad to inform him that all your friends own a specific new pair of shoes. Double points if he doesn't even know who your friends are and has no way to really fact-check your assertion.

But if this is going to be your tactic, you have to be prepared for the possibility that your parents will catch on and then ask you if you asked the other parent first. Then the whole technique is foiled. But it was fun while it lasted.
