Oh please, be very careful when walking from the parking lot to work. I know hopsitals always leave the close-in parking spots for patients and visitors and staff has to park a long ways away. Hopefully the roads are slowly being cleared.

A little help from mamawalker in relation to walking in, or getting stuck in, snow. Gud adbice!! By mamawalker on Jan 28, 2015 at 4:10 PM EDd ur msg to sugarcatsmom! Make sure to tell her to keep a bag of clay litter in there, too!! Non-clumping for sure...in fact the cheaper the better. It's great for getting traction after your tires have already burned a ice slick into the snow. In fact, when it's really icy out and I have to walk somewhere, I have a baggie of it in my purse to scatter in from of me like bird seed. And voila...no slipping with the attendant broken hip!!

Oh dear! It was like that here. I went to pick up the grandkids from school two days after our blizzard and the snow had been piled in the street parking which is all parents have. School parking off limits. A couple of us had shovels so parents were able to dig some out but it was 2 feet, that had started to melt and then froze. I wonder why they didn't put it in dump trucks and get it out of there...but i don't know the science of snow removal. ;) If your roads are still bad keep a shovel in the car with you! You'll be glad you did. :D I hope it's over for you too!!
By Sylviag on Jan 27, 2015 at 4:12 PM
Evening there now - has it slowed down? I bet your daughter is ready for a good rest after all that shoveling.
By violetD on Jan 27, 2015 at 3:00 PM
Good for you for staying indoors. Daughter sounds like a hardy lass!!! Good for her! I just LOVE young'uns that help out their Parents!! She's an adult right? What a wonderful young woman! We had a blizzard with a sudden dump of 2 feet of snow the beginning of January, and that shut our city right down for two days and roads were still sketchy after that. SO much snow and nowhere to put it. I think you've got one more snow day at least...has it even stopped snowing yet? The PTB are so smart to put driving bans in place. It risks the lives of emergency personnel who aren;t safe to be out either. Hunker down and have a nice cuppa coffee or tea or a good stiff drink and enjoy the time off. You deserve it! You're such a tough old broad. ;)

I am watching your blizzard right now on the news. It's very bad...not safe at all...you already have a few feet of snow in many areas with higher drifts in others. Oddly enough tho...you only have about 90 customers without power right now which is amazing for a storm of this magnitude. I sure hope you are one of the people with power. I hope you're happy to have a couple of snow days and that you have provisions, candles or flashlight and batteries, and some kinda warms!! I can totes relate to your dislike of snow.We gotta be tough old broads but we don;t want to be stupid. Older ladies what has hip and spinal ishooz shud wok bery careful in da snow!! I'm so happy you have your brave girl close!! Make sure to tell her that if she absolutely HAS to drive anywhere to make sure she packs shovels, garden and snow, in case she needs to dig herself out! In that much snow it's purractically a given!! Lubs and hugs to ya Darlin'...it will be over soon!

Oh I like "Blizzard Brownies" :) What a great idea to have with cocoa or coffee while the elements wreak havoc outside. That's one thing about kittehs, they don't care what the weather is like as long as they have their comfy spots, food and lots of lubs . Make sure your daughter takes breaks - shoveling snow is one of the more physically taxing chores in the winter. Paying that everyone keep power for both new and amusement. Bryan and I, when we lived in WA, experienced many power outages due to wind storms and we always kept a picture puzzle on hand although it ws challenng because of the cat who waned to walk all over it, No problem. I am awlays hppy to chat with frens and even more when I am hoping hey check in when here is some kind of disaster going on.

Very good to see you on! I've seen online but am waiting for national morning news to see just how bad it is. Oh no the infamous snowdrift blocking the door. The birdies can wait a day or to - you stay put in the house. It looks totally nasty and unsafe to be out on the streets. I always feel for first responders and hopsital staff in these kinds of events because they must be available for emergencie. Looks like Massachusets is being hit very hard. I hope the coastal flooding will not be bad. Stay safe and keep us posed.

I'm glad your leg is better and that you won't have to go out into the blizzard, but I'm really sorry you are getting slammed with snow. At least it may not be as much as first predicted. My fingers are crossed that you do not lose power! I feel sort of guilty that all we've had was some rain. We are getting some wind now, but it isn't all that bad. I hope you can rest during your time at home--with power.

I'm really sorry about your fall. Black ice is the most dangerous part of winter for sure. Our forecasters have been saying all week that all up the coast north of us will be slammed by the system coming through. We will have only a dusting, and that suits me fine. We had black ice two weeks ago, and that was enough frozen mess for me for the winter. I hope your leg will feel better soon. At least you will be able to see what falls this time.

Just getting back to this...hope the weather improved... your current forecast looks quite close to what we've been having. 4C during the day and 0 ish at night. I'm quite happy with anything above freezing these days. :D I keep telling myself Spring will be here before I know it. Take care Darlin'!!

I knew I stopped seeing your name around and am so glad to hear all is well. It is such a bonus when one really enjoys their job and their coworkers. You are another one of those wonderful people feeding a little colony. Hav a great rest of the weekend,

The diet is high fiber, low fat with no seeds or nuts--even though there is no medical evidence to show that seeds or nuts cause problems. I'm doing as told though. That's a good situation you are in with retirement. The way things have become in the past five years, I won't miss much about my work, and that is sad. Have a good week. I won't be on much during the weeks anymore but will try to check in on the weekends.

Work is so stressful for most of us that it keeps us tired. It's one hip that's left for my husband. This was the second knee last summer. The remaining hip isn't causing a lot of trouble yet, so the surgeon believes we will be able to skip a summer. I had emergency bowel surgery back in 2008 (adhesions from a previous surgery completely blocked the bowel), and there was no sign of diverticulosis at that time. This was my first attack, and I'm fortunate not to have a cut happy surgeon. She felt I.V. antibiotics and resting the colon would do the trick this time, and it did (three days in the hospital). She and my other doctors have been very honest with me, and I know that there will be more attacks, and one will come that will require surgery. I have a neighbor who had a sudden attack over 30 years ago and has never had another, but she is the exception, not the rule. I plan to go easy at work--as much as possible. I am going to retire in June. It's one year before I am eligible for full Social Security benefits, but I can get full state benefits and should be okay. I stay so stressed that i can't sleep well and I can't drink as much water as I should because I'm not about to leave a class to go to the bathroom. My damaged Achilles tendons bother me much more when I'm working too. I take this attack as perhaps the last warning my body is going to give me. 43 years is enough anyway. JoJo was a beautiful cat. It's chilly here but still above freezing, so we are having rain. We seem to have rain most of the time now, and it's depressing. i hope that as the days get longer and there's more light, you won't feel as tired from work. Have a relaxing evening and Sunday. I'm really glad you are back, Sandy.

I know. It's hard to leave somewhere you are comfortable. I loved Lancaster PA and was there 20 plus years, but I've been here now over 20 too and am just as settled. Time takes care of everything
By NCcharmer on Jan 3, 2015 at 4:36 PM
No, I don't know her. We have some pretty beautiful islands here in North Carolina too. Lots to choose from.

Good to see you back! I had feared that you were ill or something. Computer problems are bad enough, but they are better than body problems. It has been a long haul through the summer (the other knee was replaced for Hubcat) and first semester. I went down the second week of December myself (diverticulitis--didn't even know I had diverticulosis), and I'm still not totally recovered--not much energy at all. I'm going back to work Monday though and hope I can get by on stubbornness. It's the last week of first semester, and I really need to be there. i hope you and the cats are all doing fine and that your computer will behave now. Happy 2015!
