I don't know how I'd feel about an earthquake. There's a fault line that runs across the northeast corner of the state that could potentially do some damage here, but I don't even think about it, so I understand why people in California don't worry all that much about a big one happening there. The rain is returning here Wednesday and supposed to continue for several days. That's all we need. <sigh>

Yep, we're fine here up on our ridge. Lots of places along the river are already experiencing record-breaking flooding, and it's going to get worse before it gets better. One thing that's good here is that Arkansas missed the worst of the tornadoes this year. What a mess. I can't help but wonder what hurricane season is going to be like. At least we won't have to worry about that. My sis has been south of the worst Texas storms, tho she's had a few doozies. No damage to the farm at least.

I hope you're able to enjoy those baby backs when you do get around to eating them. Glad you have your mom to hem those jeans for ya! I can relate to being vertically challenged, since I'm just over 5' 2". At least women can still get clothes in 'petite' size, tho it's usually slim pickings. For me the bigger hassle is when I'm at a store and the item I need is on the top shelf which, of course, I can't reach. ACK! Most of the time there's someone around who can help me but I've had to climb up many a shelf over the years. I'm lucky I've never busted my butt. We ended up having chicken kabobs yesterday. They turned out great.

After I sent you my last message, I saw a home video on the news of a little boy sitting on a slide in his back yard when a tree frog jumped on his arm and just sat there. The poor kid had no idea what it was and started screaming and crying but the frog didn't budge, so one of his parents went over and flicked it off with his hand. The only problem was that the frog then landed on the kid's face, by his nose and lip. You couldn't help but laugh but I felt bad for the little boy. He'll probably have a fear of frogs all his life. So, baby backs for Sunday! Yum! Maybe that'll wake those taste buds up. I don't know what Chuck wants to have. Probably just burgers or maybe chicken kabobs. Either one's fine with me. I got some potato salad and cole slaw, so it'll be a good old fashioned Memorial Day meal.

No hurry, just wanted to make sure it didn’t wander elsewhere.

did you get an email from me on the 12th? just checking

Yeah, I really don't understand why they took so long. I'm just glad they're finally gone. We have another resident tree frog on the balcony again this year. Every morning he's hanging out in the bird bath soaking up the water. This morning he was still there after the sun came up and the birds started coming around to eat and the squirrels to drink water, so I moved him under the grill and out of the way. He didn't seem to mind. I tell ya, for a little bitty guy he sure has a loud croak!

You're right - I probably won't last until September. If nothing else I'll get some impatiens and pot them after my hydrangeas have bloomed. The people across the street didn't actually live in the house. They just stopped by a lot and sometimes left a car in the driveway, I think to keep the insurance rate down as it costs more to insure a house that isn't lived in. Their mother initially bought the lot and had the house built sometime in the late 90s but she became too elderly to live there on her own so the kids moved her to an assisted living place and put it on the market. She'd had the yard professionally landscaped and maintained but that stopped when she left. Everything died and the weeds got so out of hand that someone called the city to complain and they were notified to clean it up. After that the daughter's husband or boyfriend or whatever would come over once or twice each summer and cut the mess back. Anyway, they probably could have gotten more for the place if they'd put a little effort into it. I'm just glad they'll finally be leaving.

You're right - I really should just bite the bullet and hire someone to get rid of all the ground clutter. It's not like we couldn't afford it. We've got several days of rain and storms coming up starting later today so I'm not even going to think about it again for a while. Probably not until September. =) I never did find out what those folks were asking for their house but my guess is that they wanted way too much. They had it listed with a realtor at one time but it wasn't in the newspaper for some reason and I couldn't find it on any websites. Wow - dark hair again! How long has it been? Just think - when you finally get your strength back and are all nice and trim and fit, you really will feel younger! Kewl!!

I haven't decided yet if it's worth it to shell out a bunch of money for "jungle duty". It might come to that. I see the Warriors won game 2. I went to bed before it ended and it looked like it could go either way. That was quite a battle. Durant's going to be out at least another two games, so I hope the Dubs can win at least one of the next two in Portland. Looks like our trashy neighbors across the street have finally sold their house, after about 10 years or so having it on the market. I'm sure we're not the only people around here who will be glad to see them go.

How nice to have a competent guy to take care of your front yard. I'd like to find someone to clear out my jungle but I doubt if anybody would want the job. Yay Warriors! A nice win for sure. I saw a picture of the Curry boys' parents in their dual numbered jerseys. Too funny!

"Won't power" - that's a great way to phrase it. How are your taste buds coming along? Yesterday started out cold and rainy but cleared up by noon. I went out and hacked down some more giant weeds and annoying limbs. Hardly made a dent and managed to pick up a seed tick despite the fact that I sprayed myself with Deet, but I felt better. I still haven't done any planting but might get a chance this week with little to no rain expected. How's your yard looking? Have you been able to get out and do any work on it? Have you got any birds nesting?

Ha! Or, "He was a DASK" -- equally bad. My new novel is a romantic suspense. Or suspenseful romance. One of those two. Set in the world of antiques. Whole different thing for me, but so fun!

I sure did! The group of agents that were there were harsh and picky. There was a random reading of the first page or two of manuscripts on Friday night (no names of authors attached). The panel of agents universally pretty much panned every one. Mine wasn't one of those randomly selected, which now I think was a good thing. I can really examine my first pages again knowing they haven't already been heard. Now the real work begins! Got to scrub and polish and rethink every paragraph and plot point. I hope to send off my book to the agents in two weeks. That gives me time to work but is soon enough that maybe I'll be remembered from the event. Thanks! This is exciting and frightening!!

Good morning! I pitched to two agents. Both were enthusiastic and asked to read my manuscript!

Kudos to you for quitting all three addictions like you did. That takes a whole lot of will power. Ah, poor Coco, losing all those teeth! It must feel pretty strange. At least she made it through okay. I feel for Teresa, too. That's like major surgery! Nothing new to report here. It's another cold and rainy day. Tomorrow shows promise, however. =) Oh, I was glad to see the Warriors pull out the win last night, especially with Durant sidelined. I had my doubts!

A 12 inch machete eh? Somehow that doesn't surprise me. Ha! Sorry to hear about your friends who've struggled with hydrocodone. I consider myself lucky that I had such a bad time with them, or who knows what would have happened. I can't even successfully quit cigarettes. That's a shame about your friend getting lung cancer, too. I get a lung scan every year now so I can hopefully catch it early if it ever shows up. Chuck quit cigs cold turkey when he got his cancer and hasn't smoked since. I've cut down a lot but still need one occasionally - never around him tho, of course! I sure don't know what to do about the shootings either, but I agree that if they're that screwed up, they should stick with just killing themselves. That's sad enough.

Those BBQ Pit Boys are a hoot! Do you drool while you watch it? lol A heroic story for Chuck's toe would be nice but I doubt if anyone would believe it. We'll just have to stick with the "klutz" version. I hear ya about your taste buds. Mine were screwed up for a few months after I had my knee fixed. Everything tasted like crap. I think in my case it was the hydrocodone I had to take. That stuff kills the pain but the side effects were horrible and lasted for quite a while after I quit taking it. I don't know how people ever get hooked on it. Boy, another school shooing right where I grew up. First was Columbine, then my own high school and now Highlands Ranch. It just breaks my heart and I'll never understand it.

I had a really nice visit, thanks. We didn't do a whole lot - went out to dinner once with a couple of her pals but mostly just hung out at her place, taking walks and tootling around in her ATV. Saw lots of deer and met the bee keepers who have set up hives on the far side of her pond. They're a really nice couple, originally from Colorado, so we had a lot to chat about. Very relaxing mini-vacation. Had some bad storms there Thursday and again Friday night and her poor old dogs were scared to death. Sis managed to fall asleep but I stayed up doing some packing so both dogs came upstairs to my bedroom and I sat up with them until the storm blew over. I felt so sorry for them. Meanwhile, Chuck (somehow!) smashed his big toe Saturday morning but fortunately it was on his left foot so he was able to pick me up at the airport. Still not really clear on how me managed that, but I'm glad he waited until Saturday to do it and didn't have to hobble around the whole time I was gone. It's probably broken but of course he won't go to the doctor. He's walking a little better now, tho, so I guess he'll live. =)
