Thanks a lot for helping me with collectibles while I was moving :)

Well, she's in the throes of dementia/early Alzheimer's and apparently doesn't even know her own family most of the time these days. And having dealt with dying parents who went through mild dementia at The End, and dealing now with PervUnc and DrunkAunt who BOTH have [alcohol-induced?] dementia, I have to retreat from it at some point. I'm a total chicken. I LOVE the video!! So clever but it also gets the point across! Let me know how things go in Toronto -- fingers, toes, and eyes are crossed for you!

Boy, did I come out well on that collectible swap. I'm not a fan of tofurkey and I love turkey sammies! I know you're feeling the loss of someone important to you and I don't want to toss out some trite message but I really do hope you're feeling better and that over the holiday you'll be able to reflect more on the good times you shared and less on the pain of the loss. Hang in there.

Oh, sohns, I'm so sorry for your loss. My own mentor is in hospice now and I'm feeling horrible that I hadn't spoken to her [for various reasons, none of them good -- mostly pure laziness on my part] in more than 2 years. She's had an amazing life, and is almost 85 now, but it's never easy to lose someone who's had such an impact on your life. Hope all goes well in Toronto [if you want it to!] and I don't envy you the move, but at least it's not a move within Texas in AUGUST, which always seems to be my MO!

I am so sorry to hear that. Cancer does indeed rob the world of many great people all too soon. LOLcats can only offer so much comfort. Better to pull your new love and your two cats close in a time like this. I'm here if you want to chat but completely understand the time away. Hang in there. Dave

It is a fun project and will ultimately be very meaningful for all of us. Dad has many stories from his childhood growing up on a sheep ranch in the depression. We're combining ancestry with those stories and photos we have to make a DVD. We have done a bunch of research through Ancestry.com. On one side of the family it's very much an immigrant story with everyone coming from Germany and Holland around 1850-70. The other side of the family can be traced back to Massachusetts with a birth there as early as 1643. It's tougher to do research with the family once we get back to Germany. In any case, I've recorded Dad talking about our ancestry and his stories from childhood and matched it up with photos in a slideshow and will have a soundtrack running that goes with what he's talking about. It's about 25 minutes long now and I expect it will be 35 or so when we're all done. We'll have DVDs for everyone in the family as Christmas presents. It's been a lot of work but it's been great to spend the time with my folks doing this. Once we're done with Dad's side we'll work on Mom's and then organize all the photos of our childhoods. It's been a big task just to scan all the photos and have a digital record. Adding captions to identify everyone is pretty laborious but very valuable. Tell me more about your work. It sounds interesting.

My weekend was good as well. I made big progress on a family history video project I've been working on with my folks for months. They'll be down for dinner today and we'll see how much more we can accomplish.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to how they award them. Hopefully I can help you finish yours off in the next few days.

I wouldn't consider it selfish to say that at all. I think the idea of business trips and the reality of business trips are often two different things. I'm retired now but I did have a little travel back in the day. I'd have a couple trips a year that would last up to a week. It was a nice change of pace but I never sleep well away from home so if I could have written the script, all of those big meeting would have been within driving distance so I could return to my own bed each night.

Thanks for the Captain Troll collectible. I hope your conference went well. Do you enjoy traveling for business or do you consider it a pain?
