I caught one of these on TV last night (not this one) and it answers a lot of the questions you had on wind mills and wind power. Huell is a bit of a character out here. He's a native of Tennessee but he is enthusiastic about California and our "treasures" and has been doing these shows for years. This wind farm is near Palm Springs and the one that I told you about is in Tehachapi. << vimeo.com/12769816 >> <<

Unfortunately I'll be far from my PC for half next week and part of the further, but you'll be in my mind if I'll get a double collectible you should miss. ;) max

Glad to hear you had a good time in Florida. I had a great time in San Pedro. We toured and dedicated the SS Lane Victory, saw the Merchant Marines Memorial, the LA Maritime Museum and took a three hour cruise around Terminal Island. I'm off to sunny Santa Barbara this evening for an official visit. Won't get home til 11 prob'ly. Tomorrow ought to be fun :-( >I figger the "paper hanger" is a little better'n "a one legged man in an a$$ kickin' contest". >If I don't talk to you before hand, have a great trip. - James

Yep, busier'n a one-armed paper hanger. I'll tell you more about the kittens when I have more time. Hope you have a great time in Florida. I'm going to the beach this weekend myself...sorta. We are dedicating the SS Lane Victory in San Pedro tomorrow, initiating a group of new members, doin' a harbor cruise (wine & cheese) on a tall ship and havin' a banquet. We're also touring the Los Angeles Maritime Museum and I may try and get over to the Fort MacArthur museum too. I grew up only 75 miles away but I've never been to San Pedro before. Should be a fun (busy) day. Gotta run right now, TTYL - James

Thank you for the beaker! Chem cat is the favorite meme in this house (wife was a chem major). As always, if anyone needs anything I've got, just ask!

Well, once again I am embarrassed by how long it has been since I have written. Your last message contained a hope for life to treat me well and for the sun to shine down on me. Well, it was 90 degrees here for the last two days and I suddenly have two kittens. How's that? :-) They're not very good, but there are a couple of pictures of my little terrorists in my LOLs. My office is now littered with cardboard box playhouses and crumpled balls of paper. >It's no excuse for not writing but I've been keeping busy with my NSGW and BCHC stuff. Starting the weekend of 8 October and winding up yesterday; I was in a parade, went to two BBQs, made three official visits (two with dinners), prepared a presentation, attended a BoD meeting, published two newsletters, attended my regular local meeting, drove 825 miles above and beyond my daily 90 mile (round trip) commute, did a workday in the park and worked my regular job. I'm pooped. >I don't remember the sound at the wind farm to be that bad. It certainly wasn't something that you couldn't learn to live with...not like jet engines or something. I couldn't tell you how far the sound travels. Of course low frequencies carry farther than higher ones so if you heard anything at a distance it would be the whoomp of the blades and not the whine of the generators. Unless I lived someplace that was exceptionally quiet, I don't think I would notice them for long. Oh, and don't worry about the question barrage...I understand 'cause I do the same thing. >I didn't know they still ran Barnum and Bailey trains! That's cool. >Our nights and mornings are cool now but the days are still very warm. That's pretty typical of fall out here. >Well, I'm starting to nod off so I'm going to wrap this up. TTYL *waggy tails* -James
