When it comes to someone's special day, whether it be a birthday, wedding, or baby shower, there's one pretty important unspoken rule that most people understand: don't steal the thunder. For some entitled a-holes out there, the mere thought of not being the center of attention for one second is just too much to bear.
After years of struggling with infertility and multiple miscarriages, redditor u/rainbowbaby2022 and her husband were delighted to finally be having a baby and planned to celebrate at their baby shower. Instead of simply being happy for her niece, OP's entitled aunt took the opportunity to hijack her niece's shower in order to announce her own daughter's pregnancy. Some people have a lot of nerve.
Redditors in the comment section were very supportive of OP and baffled by the audacity of OP's aunt and cousin.
OP replied, “My aunt and cousin are the types of people who need attention on them 24/7. If the attention was on anybody else, they will do anything to take the attention back to them. It's been this way my entire life.”
“Sounds like people who need to be on the permanently uninvited list.” said u/fritothelawyer.
“After the stunt they just pulled we are definitely distancing ourselves from them!” replied OP, “They won't be seeing us or our baby until we get an apology, and I doubt we ever will get one.”
“Ugh…those people are the WORST. I’m sorry you’ve got some in your family! I have a couple of those too. Wishing you a smooth pregnancy and delivery and all of the best that parenting and life have to offer!” said u/Disastrous_Reality_4.
“They both were so mad that the attention wasn't on them!” replied OP, “In our family, certain people always favored my aunt and cousin, and certain ones favored my mother, her other siblings, and all us kids. It didn't surprise me that those ones left with my aunt and cousin. It really hurts, but it's been happening our whole lives. My grandma is getting pretty old and sicker, so we keep trying to ‘keep the family together’ for her. We hardly see them, only at family gatherings.”
