Being a kitten, despite what you may think, is a lot of really hard work. Just like a human baby, you have so, so much to learn. Kittens open their eyes and suddenly have the whole world in front of them, and they have to learn all of it, sometimes with the help of their mommas, and sometimes, all on their own. Kittens have to learn how to walk, because balancing on four wobbly legs is really hard at first. And kittens have to learn how to drink water - without it getting up their nose as they bend down to do it, of course. And kittens have to learn that water is evil - not drinking it, but touching it. These are all very important lessons.
And of course, the most basic of them all… kittens have to learn how to eat. Now, you may think that this is something they know how to do instinctively, and sure, maybe that's true, but not eat from bowls. Bowls are not instinctive, and when the food is in them, apparently, it can be quite difficult to reach.
