So it's official - the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie has a name, and it's a big one: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Hitting theaters April 3, 2026, this one is going full cosmic, pulling inspiration straight from the 2007 Wii classic Super Mario Galaxy.
The reveal came during Nintendo Direct with a sweet little teaser: Mario snoozing under a tree by Peach's castle, only for the camera to slowly pan upward until - boom - space. We even got glimpses of Monty Mole, Cheep Cheeps, and a crowd of busy Toads before the screen cut out. If the first movie gave us the Mushroom Kingdom, this one's about to give us the whole galaxy.
And yes, the entire cast is back. Chris Pratt is still Mario (I know, I know - I'm still not fully sold either), with Anya Taylor-Joy returning as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. Honestly, Jack Black as Bowser could carry these movies forever, so I'm not complaining.
The first film was massive, pulling in $1.36 billion worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing video game adaptation ever. No wonder Illumination and Nintendo are doubling down. Between this and the upcoming live-action Zelda movie in 2027, it feels like Nintendo is finally building its own cinematic universe.
I don't know about you, but I'm ready for Mario in zero gravity. Let's-a-go… to space!
