The Sith-est First Impression You Could Ever Make: Cosplay Prank Gone Wrong

To some, first impressions are an irreversible portrayal of a person’s character, regardless of circumstance. How a person handles any given situation upon meeting a person can say a lot about their personality. Depending on the situation of course, some first-time meet-ups an be downright embarrassing and hard to come back from.

For @whismic, aka Darth Maul Girl on TikTok, she experienced a bit of an embarrassing first impression when meeting her boyfriend’s female coworker. Most people have inside jokes and funny pranks that are perfectly acceptable to tight-knit audiences, like your best friends, family, or significant other. However, oftentimes funny pranks can be misconstrued or misunderstood by people who don’t know you.

If you know whismic, or have looked at her profile, you can gauge that she’s a cosplay and makeup star. She does incredible fantasy makeup looks and can put off a female Darth Maul costume better than anyone. In context, she’s an artist and great at what she does. Out of context and we’re a little confused.

One day, whismic filmed herself picking up her boyfriend from the airport with a full face of Darth Maul costume makeup. No doubt, she was expecting him to laugh and comment on how surprised he was to see her fully cosplayed, and then they were supposed to go home without ever encountering anyone else.

As many individuals can attest, if you’re not planning to run into anyone you’ll ever see again in the outside world, different protocols may apply to the way you portray yourself. For example, if whismic had expected to meet anyone apart from her boyfriend, she might not have showed up with a dramatic face full of red and black.

Prank gone wrong

As someone who has experienced a similar situation, the twist of this video is the part that makes me cringe. Uncomfortable as ever, the boyfriend laughs at the makeup and quickly moves on to ask if whismic can drive his female coworker home from the airport as well. Making the full-face of costume makeup the first face she sees when meeting our hero.

A lot of women don’t understand or appreciate the time and dedication put into cosplay, especially if it’s from a franchise they don’t particularly understand. Star Wars fans can attest that the female fan population is far smaller than most other fantasy franchises.

For whismic, things aren’t looking very good.

Naturally, a person can’t simply refuse to drive someone just because they don’t want their face to be seen– that would be rude. So whismic begrudgingly obliges to drive her boyfriend’s coworker home, knowing that there is a good chance it won’t come off very well. For that, whismic is a hero. Showing her true colors of not giving a crap if she has Darth Maul as a face. It may be an unpopular opinion, but I think that’s a kick ass first impression and an unforgettable meet cute.
