Baia do Sancho has been voted the world's best beach by Trip Advisor, despite (or maybe because of) the difficult journey it takes to get there. Located in the Fernando de Noronha islands, a volcanic archipelago about 217 miles off Brazil's northeast coast, Baia do Sancho boasts beautiful turquoise water sheltered by forested cliffs.

The Fernando de Noronha islands are protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, meaning that only 700 visitors are allowed on any island of the archipelago at any time. There are also many other more accessible beaches on the islands, so only the truly dedicated make it to Baia do Sancho. And that means that you'll most likely have the pristine waters and golden sand to yourself once you make the journey there.

There are two ways to get to Baia do Sancho. The easiest way is to hop on a tour boat from Fernando de Noronha. This option is best for families and those who like to travel with ease.

For the adventurers out there, pack a backpack with water and wear some walking shoes: you'll have to walk through the forest on a boardwalk and descend down a long, steep ladder through a rock crevice. If you go in the early morning, you'll be guaranteed to have the beach to yourself (the tour boats arrive by mid-morning).

If walking to Baia do Sancho, make sure to get a pass from Fernando de Noronha in order to enter the national park's beaches. Without one you'll have to go back, and you're also contributing to the conservation of the national parks.

Once you get to Baia do Sancho, keep your eye out for all the wildlife there. The water is teeming with sea creatures like fish, turtles, manta rays and dolphins. If you've got a snorkel, pop it in your backpack so you can have a clearer look around the beach's shallow waters. Otherwise, bask in the beauty of the world's most beautiful secluded beach. Sounds good to me.
