"This is Samuel the night he broke his leg. He stole some firewood and zoomied a bit, followed by a hop in the air to grab the firewood back after taken away. Big snap and big cries. He is a 90lb Shepherd mix."

"We rushed him to our local farm vet Doc at 10pm. Sam was konked out and getting his leg wrapped in about 15 minutes. I held his leg while Doc wrapped and splinted his leg. Bad spiral fracture. I could feel and hear the bones scrape together as he was wrapping it."

"We used all our sofa cushions to make a comfy dog bed. I had ice cube trays with turkey burger and peas in bone broth for dog treats that ended up being essential to keeping him hydrated the first few days. He couldn't stand on his own for a few days. I was so happy when he finally peed himself... he was hydrated!"

"He got lots of love and he made us hold his toys while he played with them. He was such a drama queen/attention seeker before we worried how he was going to act after he got better lol. We brought him food and water, I ordered a calcium supplement for dogs off Amazon."

"His sister Sunny kept him company."

"It was hard but we were all working together to help our pupper. We had to put a breadbag on so it wouldn't get wet when he went outside. It seemed to be getting easier day by day."

"1 week later I get a text update he had chewed the foot off his cast. Balls. Doc couldn't see him for hours but we got to Doc he got a new cast. Hauled drunk 90lb Sammy from the car now twice."

"Soft cone of shame and such defeat. Poor boy."

"Lots of naps and a new Amazon memory foam bed."

"Nap time. At this point he was on 24hr watch. We all took shifts. All was good. Until..."

"On the 3rd Friday (1st incident was a Friday, new cast the next Friday...I was beginning to dread Fridays) we smelled a not so good odor and noticed a brown liquid coming from his foot. Back to Doc's we go. We wait an hour while Doc stitches up a bloodied farm dog In the truck next to us. This is the summer of Covid so everyone is waiting in the drive in their cars with their pets. Doc knocked Sam out with some good drugs, and cut his cast. He dug his fingers in between his brown-grey toe jelly, sniffed his fingers and said, "That ain't right". Damn"

"We carried drugged up doggo into the house again. No cast with a 3 week old spiral fracture. Funfact there were fireworks in town and on our street that night. I got drunk with my poor drugged dog. Doc said it was good for him to lick it. Ugh it smelled like he was going to loose it.
He licked too much. It was bad but even non stick gauze stuck to it. Antibiotics do your thing. 4th Friday.... nothing with Sam but we lost Murphy our 6yr old guinea pig."

"Week 5... all is quiet. No people over because of Covid but also to keep spaz 1 and spaz 2 calm. We all had a bit of PTSD and were worried he would rebreak it. We just wanted to get to week 6. We couldn't afford plates, screws, and surgery but we did what we could for our good boy."
-
14
"And we made it! He limps on it right after he gets up. He's only 3 so we hoped it would heal and it did just that with all of Doc's help. We still have a heart attacks when he slips and almost biffs it (my God he is clumsy)."

"Sunny thinks he did it all for the attention."
