Font - Uju Anya @UjuAnya My child got sent to Zoom detention for not paying attention in Zoom 4th grade. Email said here's the link to access the room to serve detention. I swear l'm trying so hard to take this life seriously. 7:19 PM · Apr 6, 2021 · Twitter for iPhone 32K Retweets 3,702 Quote Tweets 341.1K Likes

Font - Uju Anya @UjuAnya ... Replying to @UjuAnya So, more details. This is an office referral, where the teacher gives repeated verbal warnings over time, then escalates to sending the child to the principal's office and notifying parents. At "detention" she's supposed to discuss and reflect with the behavior interventionist. 7:51 PM · Apr 6, 2021 · Twitter Web App

Font - Uju Anya @UjuAnya · Apr 6 The repeated behavior the teacher warned my 9yo and emailed me previously about is my child's inability to focus consistently in online class and complete the assignments. She frequently gets distracted, plays computer games, ignores the teacher, or just signs off Zoom. 141 27 457 12.1K

Font - Uju Anya @UjuAnya · Apr 6 ... My child is struggling to keep it together during this pandemic like all of us. I chose remote learning to keep her safe, and I understand doing 4th grade on Zoom is difficult. It's also hard for teacher who manages both kids in class and online. But Zoom detention is ridiculous. 164 17 652 21.4K

Mammal - Uju Anya @UjuAnya · Apr 6 Thanks, everyone, for your thoughtfulness and support. I can't possibly address all the replies and quotes, but I appreciate everyone. I have to go teach my own class now, but for those asking, yes, "virtual detention" were their exact words, and, no, I'm not sending my child. ... 204 17 272 13.9K

The response on Twitter was overwhelmingly supportive

Font - Meredith Pruden @MeredithPruden Replying to @UjuAnya Let me get this straight. The "solution" to a child struggling with zoom fatigue is to give them more zoom? I mean. Come on. 8:56 PM · Apr 6, 2021 · Twitter for iPhone

Font - Kade Ansel @gender_is_fake Replying to @GeorgeEWade @MeredithPruden and @UjuAnya Here's a solution: don't punish a child for having fatique and attention issues after having to sit and stare at a screen all day. Adjust your expectations to be more realistic. 12:06 AM · Apr 7, 2021 · Twitter for iPhone

Font - Queen Stefanie @JustTrimTheEnds Replying to @UjuAnya Virtual school can work but so many issues are arising. Some teachers are being exposed that they aren't effective in their role. It makes one wonder if school districts will hire better candidates. 1:23 AM · Apr 7, 2021 · Twitter for iPhone

Font - Michele ... @atatatstat Replying to @UjuAnya Sounds like she needs a walk outside, not detention. This is hard on everyone & kids need grace! Hang in there, so many frustrations these days. 7:53 PM Apr 6, 2021 · Twitter for iPhone

Of course, there had to be negative backlash as well

Font - Dougie RoboCop @douglas_cotton Replying to @UjuAnya You've opted for Zoom school, but Zoom detention is too far. Do you prefer in person detention? Or would you also opt of that? Should we remove detention all together? 9:02 PM · Apr 6, 2021 · Twitter for iPhone
