Tumblr Thread: Crocodile Dads Are The Best

We could never imagine that we'd ever say "awwww" about a crocodile. They are so scary, and omg, if we ever met one in real life, we would run away shaking. But, time and time again, the internet manages to convince us that these terrifying animals are not that bad. From the time that we all celebrated the 120th birthday of the oldest known Nile crocodile, to the time that we all giggled and laughed and felt embarrassed about the hilarious way that crocodiles actually look like underwater, to the time that we fell in love with crocodile skinks because they look like tiny dragons. 

And now, through this tumblr thread, we learn that crocodile dads are super protective of their little babies and carry them around on their backs - in groups of hundreds. It's adorable. Crocodiles are adorable. Shocking, right?

    Who knew that crocodiles had so much heart in them? Evil and terrifying, and yet, look at them with their teeny-weeny babies. We never ever thought that we would be able to call a crocodile cute, but somehow, tumblr managed to change our mind about an animal yet again. Almost. Crocodiles are still a lil scary.

    And then finding out that it's actually the dads carrying the babies on their backs like that is even more heartwarming. Aww, good crocodile, please please, we beg you, don't eat us, we think you're super cute and are the very best dad in all of the animal kingdom.

    Water - kaijutegu Follow Everyone in the notes is saying mama, but that's dad. See the lump on his nose? Only males have those. It's actually where they got their name; the lumps tend to resemble earthenware cooking pots called ghara. What we're seeing here is a really good dad. This is par for the course for gharials, though- here's some more dads of the year!

    Font - trashboat Follow this post humbled me. made me realize how few animals i really know. i know the classics.. giraffe, deer, gecko. wouldn't freak out if i saw one of them. i wouldn't even really freak out about a shark. but if i was in the river and suddenly the pumpkin snouted cornosaur pulled up with the mini meanies in tow i'd shit every pair of pants i have and then some

    Font - fishbaby Follow gharials are virtually no danger to us! those narrow jaws are very good for catching and eating fish and little else. they are not particularly aggressive and would rather run away from us than bite, but we have driven them to the brink of extinction. they are often caught in fishing nets and killed, and overfishing of their food supply and habitat destruction are serious issues for them. their population was as low as 200 breeding adults recently, but serious conservation
